How Many Episodes Are In The Mayor Of Easttown

Okay, let's talk about Mare of Easttown. Specifically, how many darn episodes there are. Seven. Seven episodes of twisty, turny, Pennsylvania-accented drama.
Seven Episodes? Is That Enough?
Seven seems…fine, right? It's not an overwhelming commitment. You can binge it in a weekend. But here's my unpopular opinion: it could have been eight.
Don't get me wrong, I loved it. Kate Winslet was phenomenal as Mare Sheehan. But hear me out. An extra episode would have let the tension simmer a little longer.
Must Read
Imagine This...
Picture one more episode of red herrings. One more episode of questionable characters. One more episode of trying to decipher what the heck everyone was mumbling in those accents.
It would have been glorious! More time to guess the killer. More time to stress about Mare's messy life. More time to appreciate the depressing beauty of Easttown.
I know, I know. Some people think seven was perfect. That's cool. But I'm a greedy viewer. I wanted more.

Did They Wrap Things Up Too Quickly?
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm too used to shows that drag on for ten seasons. But the ending felt a tad rushed. A tad…too neat?
Perhaps another episode could have given us more closure. More insight into the characters' motivations. More time to process the emotional fallout.
And let's be honest, more time to stare at Evan Peters. (RIP Colin Zabel, you were too good for this world.)

The Case for Episode Eight
Think about it. Episode seven was packed. We had the big reveal. We had the confrontation. We had Mare finally climbing into the attic.
That's a lot to cram into one hour! An extra episode could have allowed each of those moments to breathe. To resonate even more deeply.
We could have seen more of Mare's therapy sessions. More of her rebuilding her relationships. More of her finding peace, or at least a semblance of it.
Don't Get Me Wrong, It Was Great
I'm not saying Mare of Easttown was bad. It was brilliant. Kate Winslet deserved all the awards.

The story was compelling. The characters were complex. The atmosphere was incredibly authentic.
But...eight episodes would have been legendary.
Ultimately, It's a Matter of Preference
Maybe the creators knew exactly what they were doing. Maybe seven episodes was the perfect length. Maybe my desire for more is just a sign of my insatiable appetite for good TV.

But I stand by my unpopular opinion. One more episode of Mare of Easttown would have been amazing. Imagine the possibilities!
So, seven episodes it is. A fantastic seven. But in my heart, I'll always wonder what could have been. What do you think?
Mare of Easttown: Could it have used one more episode?
