How Many Episodes Are In Season 8 Of Castle

Okay, let's talk about Castle. Specifically, season 8. How many episodes were there? It's a question that might elicit a groan from some fans. Especially me.
The Big Reveal (It's Not a Secret!)
So, drumroll please... Season 8 of Castle had 22 episodes. Yes, you read that right. Twenty-two.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking. "Twenty-two episodes? That's a pretty standard season length!" And you're right. Objectively, it is.

My "Unpopular" Opinion
But here's the thing. And prepare yourselves, because this might be controversial. Twenty-two episodes of season 8 felt… like too much.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Castle. I’ve rewatched it a million times. But season 8 just felt… different.
It felt like they were stretching the storylines a bit thin. Like they were trying to fill a quota. Anyone else feel this way?

The whole LokSat storyline? It dragged on. And on. And on. I think they could have wrapped that up much sooner.
And let's not even get started on the whole "Castle and Beckett separated" thing. That was… a choice. A choice I personally didn't enjoy.
Remembering the Good Stuff
Okay, okay, I'm being a bit harsh. There were definitely some good episodes in season 8. The one with the firefly-esque show? Pretty great.
And who can forget "Mr. & Mrs. Castle"? That was a fun romp. Seeing them pretend to be spies? Classic Castle gold.

But even with the good episodes, the overall season felt a bit… off. It lacked some of the charm and spark of earlier seasons.
Perhaps it was the behind-the-scenes drama. Perhaps it was the writing. Perhaps it was just me. Who knows?
But for me, season 8 is the season I tend to skip during rewatches. I usually stop somewhere around season 7. Anyone else do the same?

"Season 8 felt like a different show. It wasn't bad, just... different."
It's not that it was bad, per se. It just wasn't the Castle I had fallen in love with. It felt like they were trying too hard to reinvent the wheel.
Could It Have Been Shorter?
So, back to the question at hand. Twenty-two episodes. Could it have been shorter? In my humble opinion, absolutely.
Imagine if they had condensed the LokSat storyline into, say, 10 episodes. That would have been tighter, more suspenseful, and less… tedious.
And maybe, just maybe, they could have given us a more satisfying ending. An ending that didn't feel rushed and a bit… confusing.

But alas, it is what it is. Season 8 is 22 episodes long. And we’ll just have to live with it.
But hey, at least we have the earlier seasons to enjoy! And who knows, maybe someday I'll change my mind about season 8. Maybe.
Until then, I'll stick to rewatching my favorite episodes. You know, the ones where Castle and Beckett are adorable and solve crimes together. The good ol' days.
What do you think? Was 22 episodes the right length for season 8? Or do you agree with me that it was a bit too much? Let's discuss!
