Okay, okay. Let's talk about something controversial. Something maybe a little... spicy? I'm ready to dive into Hitorijime My Hero Season 2 Episode 1!
Wait, Is This Just Me?
Don't get me wrong, I adore Hitorijime My Hero. The awkwardness? The pining? The blatant flirting-that's-totally-not-flirting-but-is? Chefs kiss! Season one was fantastic.
But hear me out: Episode 1 of Season 2… it felt a bit... slow? I said it! Don't @ me!
We basically got a recap. A cute recap, sure. But still a recap! Were we supposed to forget what happened? Did I suddenly develop anime amnesia?
Like, I get it. They need to re-establish the status quo. Kensuke is still adorable and clueless. Masahiro is still blushing at every opportunity. Kousuke is still a giant, loveable dork.
And Asaya is still judging them all. With love, of course. He's the ultimate wingman, whether he wants to be or not.

The Drama (or Lack Thereof)
Where's the angst? Where's the high school hijinks? Where's the near-misses and the stolen glances that make my heart ache?
Episode one felt like everyone was just… happy. Too happy? Is that a thing? Give me some pining! Give me some jealousy! Give me something to emotionally invest in!
Maybe I'm just a drama queen. Maybe I just like seeing fictional characters suffer (a little bit). But come on! Give the people what they want!

The Potential is Still There
Okay, okay, I'm not completely hating on it. There were definitely sweet moments. Anytime Masahiro and Kousuke are on screen together, it's basically diabetes waiting to happen.
And the little glimpses into their everyday life? Adorable. The awkward family dinners? Relatable. The underlying feeling of "we're figuring this out together"? Heartwarming.
But it needs more oomph. More spice! More... something! Think about season one. The tension was palpable!
My Unpopular Opinion: Needs More Conflict
So, here it is. My controversial, possibly wildly inaccurate, opinion: Episode 1 needed more conflict. Not necessarily bad conflict, but something to shake things up.

Maybe a new student trying to woo Masahiro? Maybe Kousuke's past catching up to him? Maybe a rival cram school trying to steal Kensuke away?
Anything! Give me anything other than everyone being perfectly content and well-adjusted. It's anime, not a therapy session! (Okay, maybe a little therapy is okay).
I'm just saying, even perfect couples need a little bit of drama to keep things interesting.

Hoping for a Stronger Second Episode
I'm still holding out hope for Hitorijime My Hero Season 2. I truly am! I love these characters, and I want to see their relationships grow and evolve.
But Episode 1 felt like a gentle warm-up. A slow burn that needs a little more fuel. Please, anime gods, give us some conflict! Give us some angst! Give us something to scream about on Twitter!
I will be watching the next episode. You can count on that. I'm just hoping it kicks things up a notch. Let's get this show on the road, people!
What do you think? Am I completely off base? Let me know in the comments! (But be nice! I'm sensitive!).
