High School Dxd Season 4 Looks Different

Okay, let's talk High School DxD. Specifically, Season 4. Something felt... off, right? I'm not crazy, am I?
We all know and (secretly?) love the show for its, uh, plot. But season 4? Different vibe, different face. Let's just say, the art style had a glow up, or maybe a glow down depending on who you ask.
The Faces, Man, The Faces!
Remember Rias Gremory? Our crimson-haired queen? Well, she looked... smoother. Like she'd discovered the fountain of youth... or maybe a new animation studio. It's the same character but definitely, not the same charm.
Must Read
And it wasn't just Rias. Everyone seemed to have undergone a makeover. Less detail, rounder edges. Like they'd all collectively decided to try a new Instagram filter.
Don't get me wrong, the animation was slick. But did they sacrifice some of the soul? Was it worth the upgrade?
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
Here it comes, brace yourselves! I liked the old art style better! Yes, I said it! I know, I know, I'm probably a monster.

The older seasons had a certain charm. A roughness, a distinct feel. Season 4 felt... generic. More like a cookie-cutter anime girl.
Maybe I'm just old-fashioned. Maybe I'm resistant to change. But those early seasons just hit different.
Boobs are Boobs, But...
Look, we all know what we're really here for. And the oppai were still... present. But even they felt different. Dare I say, nerfed? Someone, somewhere will probably disagree, and that's fine too!

It's like they were trying to be more tasteful. Which, I guess, is a noble goal. But is High School DxD really the place for tasteful modesty?
I'm not saying I wanted bouncing physics that defied reality (okay, maybe I did a little). But something felt missing.
The Story Still Slapped (Mostly)
Okay, let's be fair. The story in Season 4 was still pretty good. The battles were epic. The plot... well, the plot still existed.

We got to see Issei grow (both in power and... other ways). We got new characters. We got the same over-the-top action we've come to expect.
So, from a plot perspective, Season 4 wasn't a total loss. Just a visual shift that some found unsettling.
Was It Really That Bad?
Probably not. Maybe I'm exaggerating. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic for the old days.

But the visual change was definitely noticeable. And for some of us, it impacted the viewing experience. It’s still High School DxD, and we still have our favorite dragon.
Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Some loved the new look. Some hated it. And some (like me) are just perpetually confused.
But hey, at least we can all agree on one thing: High School DxD is never boring! Even with all the changes!
So, what do you think? Am I completely off base? Or did Season 4 also give you a case of the anime uncanny valley?
