Hbo Max Our Flag Means Death Season 2

Okay, people. Let’s talk about Our Flag Means Death Season 2. Specifically, my slightly controversial thoughts on it.
The Ship Sailed, But Where Did It Land?
Season 1 was pure magic, right? We all fell in love with Stede, Ed, and the whole crew. It was a quirky, heartwarming, swashbuckling romance with a dash of historical inaccuracy. Perfect!
A Little Too Much Angst?
Now, Season 2. Don’t get me wrong, it was still good. But… maybe a little too much angst? Ed was spiraling!
Must Read
I get it. He’s heartbroken. But sometimes, I just wanted him to brush his hair and eat a sandwich. Maybe commandeer a small boat or something. Just something that didn't involve so much brooding.
And Stede, bless his heart, wasn't much better. Constantly yearning! He needed a hobby or a support group for emotionally confused pirates. A pottery class, perhaps?
Where's the Hilarious Hijinks?
Remember the chaotic energy of Season 1? The terrible schemes, the disastrous mutinies, the accidental poetry slams? Season 2 felt like it dialed back the silliness just a tad.

I missed the truly ridiculous antics. I wanted more of the crew's quirky interactions. Give me more Buttons communing with seagulls! More Lucius faking his own death!
Did anyone else feel this way, or is it just me? Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion after all.
The Vibe Shift
It felt like the show wanted to be taken more seriously. And that's fine, I suppose. But part of the original appeal was the sheer, unadulterated goofiness.

Remember when they tried to sell pineapples? Peak comedy! I need that energy back.
New Characters, New Problems?
Okay, Susan 3 Sails was pretty cool. A formidable lady pirate? Yes, please!
But did we really need another love triangle? It felt a little forced.
It’s like the writers felt the need to complicate things. Sometimes, simple is better, especially when it involves pirates who can barely sail a ship.

Still Love It, Though
Look, I’m not saying Season 2 was bad. I still binged it in two days. Taika Waititi could direct me reading the phone book and I'd probably watch it.
And the relationship between Stede and Ed is still the heart of the show. I'm rooting for them!
I just think it lost a bit of its original spark. Season 1 was a lightning in a bottle.

Hoping for More (Maybe?)
The ending of Season 2 was… ambiguous, to say the least. The show hasn't been officially renewed or cancelled as of my last update. Should there be another season?
If we get a Season 3 (please, HBO gods!), I hope they lean back into the humor. More goofy schemes, less angst, and definitely more Buttons talking to birds.
What do you all think? Was Season 2 a hit or a miss? Let me know your unpopular opinions.
Perhaps we should all just be grateful we got a Season 2 to begin with.
Even if it wasn't perfect, it was still Our Flag Means Death. And that's something.
