Gail On What We Do In The Shadows

Gail On What We Do In The Shadows

Gail: A What We Do in the Shadows Opinion, Probably Wrong

Okay, folks. Let’s talk about Gail. You know, the werewolf.

I have…feelings. And maybe they’re a bit controversial. Prepare yourselves.

She’s…Fine? Hear Me Out.

I know. I know! Everyone loves Gail. She’s the cool werewolf lady.

She dates Gary, sorry, Guillermo. She's supportive of the Staten Island vamps. What’s not to like?

But here’s my thing. I just don't find her that compelling.

Compared to...Everyone Else?

Think about the main cast. Nandor is a dramatic, ancient weirdo. Nadja is a sassy, manipulative queen.

Laszlo? He's a horny genius scientist! And Colin Robinson? The energy vampire! Absolute comedic gold.

Even Guillermo, the long-suffering familiar, has more depth. Gail just kind of…exists.

Where’s the Bite?

She's nice. She’s supportive. She's…vanilla. Sorry, Gail!

She feels like a side character who accidentally wandered into a main storyline. A very polite side character.

I'm not saying she's badly written. I just think the show is overflowing with characters who have strong personalities, a crazy past, and comedic timing.

Unpopular Opinion Time: A Lack of Edge?

Maybe it’s because she’s relatively "normal." Compared to vampires who’ve been around for centuries, a werewolf feels...mundane.

Everyone is so bizarre. Her "quirk" is being a werewolf. I feel that the show did not use that aspect of her persona enough.

This is not to say she's not entertaining. She does get the ocasional joke. I just think that I was expecting a little bit more.

She’s No Jenna (And That’s Okay?)

Remember Jenna? The LARPer turned vampire?

She was awkward, clueless, and hilarious. She had a better character arc. Gail kind of plateaus.

Even The Baron was much more compelling. And he spent most of his time turned into a baby!

I'm Probably Wrong (But Still…)

Look, I get it. I'm sure many will strongly disagree with me, and that’s fine. I welcome the fury of Gail fans!

Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe her understated nature is the point. Maybe she brings a much-needed dose of normalcy to the show.

But for me, Gail just doesn’t quite reach the same level of comedic brilliance as the rest of the cast. Please don't hate me!

The Verdict?

Gail is a fine character. But in a show filled with extraordinary ones? She's just…fine.

And in What We Do in the Shadows, "fine" isn’t quite good enough, right?

Okay, I’m ready for the backlash. Let me know what you think!
