Funimation Won't Let Me Watch In Japanese

Okay, confession time. I'm about to say something potentially controversial. Something that might get me yelled at by purists. But here goes...
Subtitles? No Thanks!
I get it. Subtitles are important. Accessibility matters. But sometimes, just sometimes, I want to ditch 'em.
Especially when I'm trying to watch anime! Am I the only one who feels this way? I suspect not.
Must Read
The Dub Debate Rages On
The whole dub versus sub argument is older than I am. People are passionate. They have strong opinions.
And look, I appreciate a good dub! Some are legitimately fantastic. But sometimes? Sometimes I just crave the original Japanese.
I'm talking about the raw, unadulterated emotion. The intonation. The authentic voice acting of my favorite anime characters.
Funimation, My Love-Hate Relationship
Funimation, bless their cotton socks, has brought us so much amazing anime. I'm grateful. Truly.

But sometimes? Sometimes I just want to scream into the digital void. "Why won't you let me watch in Japanese?!"
It's like, I pay for this service! I'm a loyal subscriber! Throw me a bone, Funimation. Please?
The Quest for Original Audio
Navigating the menus can feel like deciphering ancient hieroglyphics. Where is the Japanese audio option hiding?
Is it buried under five layers of settings? Do I need a secret decoder ring? The suspense is killing me!

And then, the ultimate betrayal: the show I want to watch? Dub only. My heart sinks. My dreams are crushed.
Lip Sync Woes and Distracting Text
Look, I'm not saying all dubs are bad. Far from it. But let's be real: lip sync can be...off. It pulls me out of the story.
I end up focusing more on the mismatched mouth movements than on the epic battle scene unfolding before my eyes.
And don't even get me started on reading subtitles. I'm trying to appreciate the art, the animation, the overall vibe!

Immersion Interrupted
My eyes are darting back and forth between the text and the action. Immersion? Forget about it!
It's like trying to appreciate a beautiful painting while simultaneously reading a detailed description of it. It's just...too much.
Sometimes, I just want to be swept away by the sounds and the visuals. To feel the emotion directly. Subtitles get in the way of that.
My (Potentially Unpopular) Wish
So, here's my plea to Funimation (and other streaming services): give us more options!

Make it easier to find the original Japanese audio. And maybe, just maybe, consider adding a "no subtitles" option too.
Let us choose our own anime adventure! Is that too much to ask?
A World of Anime Awaits
I know, I know. It's a small thing. A silly preference. But it makes a difference to me.
It's about enjoying anime in the way that resonates most. It's about preserving the artistic integrity of the original work.
And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, I'm not the only one who feels this way. Maybe there are others out there, secretly yearning for a subtitle-free, Japanese-audio anime experience. We are here!
