Food Wars Season 3 English Dub Funimation

Okay, let's talk Food Wars! Season 3. Specifically, the English dub by Funimation.

Is it Just Me, or...?

Don't get me wrong. I love Food Wars! Like, really love it.

But sometimes, the Season 3 dub... well, it feels a little off, doesn't it?

The Voices

Some voices just didn't quite land for me. Maybe it's just personal preference.

But a character's voice can really make or break them. Especially when they're having foodgasms, right?

And speaking of foodgasms... those sound effects. Let's just say, they were... memorable.

The "Drama"

Season 3 is when things get serious. Central, Azami Nakiri, all that drama.

The dub, at times, felt like it was trying to be dramatic. Too much, maybe?

I missed some of the subtlety of the original Japanese with subtitles.

Okay, here's where I might lose some of you. Ready?

I think Erina's English voice in Season 3… was a little harsh.

I missed some of the refined elegance from earlier seasons, though it improves later.

Maybe it's just me. I'm prepared for the backlash!

The Good Stuff

It's not all bad! There are definitely some stand-out performances.

I think Soma's voice actor, Blake Shepard, consistently nails it.

He captures Soma's enthusiasm and determination perfectly. You can feel his passion for cooking.

Small Moments of "Huh?"

Then there are the little things. Lines that just sound a little... awkward.

Phrases that feel out of place. Or delivery that doesn't quite match the emotion on screen.

We've all been there, right? Saying something and then immediately regretting it?

The Food, Though!

Regardless of the dub, the food still looks amazing. Visually, it's stunning.

I always end up hungry watching Food Wars! Whether it's dubbed or subbed.

Seriously, who doesn't crave Nikumi's Chaliapin Steak Don after watching that episode?

Overall...

Look, I'm not saying the Season 3 dub is bad. Not at all.

It's just... different. And maybe not quite as good as the earlier seasons, in my opinion.

Maybe it's nostalgia talking, or maybe I just need to rewatch it again... for research purposes, of course!
