Evangelion Thrice Upon A Time Full Movie

Okay, let's talk about Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. The grand finale, right? The one we waited forever for?
Don't get me wrong, I love Evangelion. But... unpopular opinion incoming!
The Ending That Launched A Thousand Takes
Was it... perfect? Did it wrap everything up in a neat little bow? Maybe too neat?
Must Read
I mean, Shinji finally finds happiness. Good for him! He deserves it after, you know, nearly destroying the world multiple times.
But sometimes I think, did we really need the train station scene? With the adult versions? It felt a little... generic anime ending-y, didn't it?
Gendo's Backstory: A Bit Much?
We finally get Gendo's whole deal. Turns out, he was just a sad, lonely dude. Who knew?

His motivations are revealed. It's all about wanting to see Yui again. Which is understandable, I guess, if your solution is to cause a global apocalypse.
But honestly, was all that backstory necessary? Did it really make him a more sympathetic character? Or did it just make him seem… pathetic?
Asuka's Fate: The Real Tragedy?
Let's be real, Asuka got the short end of the stick, didn't she?
From her troubled childhood to her complex relationship with Shinji, she's been through it. And what does she get? Basically, a "friend" in Kensuke.

Don't get me wrong, Kensuke seems like a nice guy. But Asuka deserves more than "nice," doesn't she?
The Animation: Stunning, Obviously
Okay, let's not pretend the animation wasn't gorgeous. The Eva fights? Mind-blowing.
The sheer scale of Instrumentality? Visually stunning.
Khara really outdid themselves. No argument there.

A Little Too… Clean?
Maybe it's just me, but the ending felt a little… sanitized. Evangelion is known for its darkness and ambiguity.
This ending felt like it was trying really hard to give everyone a happy ending. Even the characters that probably didn't deserve one. (Looking at you, Gendo.)
Did the creators listened too much to the fans and "fixed" everything? I think they should have stuck to their initial artistic vision.
So, What's the Verdict?
Look, I still love Evangelion. It's a masterpiece of animation and storytelling.

But the ending? It's good. Just not… mind-blowingly good, like I expected. A little too saccharine. Little too resolved.
Maybe I'm just a contrarian. Maybe I just wanted more existential dread. But hey, that's just my unpopular opinion. What do you think?
Perhaps the "rebuild" wasn't necessary. And the original series and End of Evangelion are the masterpieces that everyone should watch.
Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to rewatch End of Evangelion. For reasons.
