Evangelion 1.0 You Are Not Alone Full Movie

Okay, let's talk about Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. We all know it, right? The movie that rebooted the whole Evangelion thing for a new generation. Or…did it?
First things first, the visuals are gorgeous. Seriously, the rebuilds look fantastic. Shiny robots punching giant monsters? Yes, please!
But here's my slightly unpopular opinion. And I'm ready for the hate. This movie...it's kinda like comfort food.
Must Read
Familiar Territory
It's basically retelling the first six episodes of the original series. Remember Shinji? Still whiny. Still gets in the robot. Still saves the day (sort of).
Asuka doesn't even show up! Which, I know, isn't the movie's fault since it's only covering the beginning. But still, no Asuka equals slightly less fun. Fight me.
I get why they did it. Reintroduce the world. Remind everyone why they loved Evangelion in the first place. But did they need to do it quite so faithfully?

The "Refresh" Button
It’s like hitting the refresh button on a webpage that was already pretty good. Sure, it looks a little cleaner. Maybe the fonts are slightly different. But is it better?
Some say the updated animation is a huge improvement. And they're probably right. Giant robots have never looked so sleek.
But the story? Pretty much beat-for-beat the same. This begs the question: what's the point?

Shinji, the Relatable Disaster
Don't get me wrong, I love Shinji Ikari. He's a mess. A total disaster. And that's why he's so relatable.
But watching him go through the same emotional turmoil again? It's exhausting. Like watching a friend make the same bad decision for the tenth time.
You just want to shake him and say, "Dude, get it together! You're piloting a giant robot! How cool is that?!"
Is it Really That Bad?
Okay, okay, I’m being a bit harsh. Evangelion 1.0 is still Evangelion. And even slightly-rehashed Evangelion is better than no Evangelion at all.

The soundtrack is still amazing. That iconic theme music gives me chills every time. And the fight scenes are undeniably epic.
It's just… I was hoping for a little more. A little more originality. A little more...spice?
My Unpopular Opinion: It's Good, Not Great
Here it is, my final verdict. Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone is a good movie.

It’s a solid retelling of a classic story. It's pretty, it's nostalgic, and it gets the job done.
But for me, it's not the game-changer that the original series was. It's more of a warm-up lap before the real race begins. Ready to be downvoted now...
Maybe I'm just a jaded old fan who wants everything to be different. Or maybe I just really miss Asuka.
Either way, I'm curious what you all think! Let me know in the comments. (But be nice! Shinji wouldn't want us to fight.)
