Does Catherine Have A Baby In The Great

Did She Actually Have A Baby in The Great? My Unpopular Opinion.
Okay, let's talk about babies on The Great. Specifically, Catherine's baby, Paul. Or...was it really her baby?
Hear me out. I have a theory. A slightly bonkers, possibly treasonous theory. But stay with me.
The Timeline Seems...Off
Pregnancy lasts nine months, right? In the show, things move fast. Political intrigue, palace coups, and suddenly, BOOM! Baby.
Must Read
Did we really see a full, convincing nine months? I'm not so sure.
The "Real" Father Suspects
Everyone was sleeping with everyone. Let's be real! Peter, Grigory, even random stable boys probably.
We know Catherine wasn't exactly limiting her...social engagements. Could the father be someone unexpected? Shocking!
Plus Peter, who's supposed to be the father, is a bit "special." He's distracted with a lot of things, for example. He's more interested in mummified bears!

My Wild Theory
I think there's a chance Catherine didn't actually carry the baby. Maybe it was someone else's child?
Maybe the child was adopted, or born to some other lady, and the Empress claimed as her own?
A royal secret! A big, fat, historical lie? Scandalous, I know!
"Sometimes a lie is more interesting than the truth." - Someone on The Great (probably)
Why Would She Do That?
Power, darling! Catherine needed an heir. A legitimate (or seemingly legitimate) ruler to secure her throne.

Having a baby solidifies her power. The end justifies the means, right?
Plus, let's face it: pretending to be pregnant is easier than actually being pregnant while running an empire.
Evidence (or Lack Thereof)
We see her with a belly. But is it convincing? Or just clever costuming?
Think about it. The show isn't exactly historically accurate. They play fast and loose with the facts!
Maybe they're hinting at something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. But I don't think so.

Consider This...
Royal bloodlines are messy. Always have been. Always will be.
Who really knows who their parents are? Especially back then? Especially in Russia?
It's all very complicated. More complicated than, for example, simple things. It's like, Peter understanding the meaning of 'rule'.
My Conclusion (Prepare to be Shocked!)
I'm not saying Catherine definitely didn't give birth to Paul.

But I'm not not saying it either. My gut tells me something is fishy. Like really, really fishy.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist. But what if I'm right? Huzzah! (for intrigue!).
Don't you think Catherine capable of orchestrating the most mind-blowing scheme in the history?
Let me know if you agree or think I'm absolutely nuts!
It would be fun if the next season reveals the real mom. Huzzah!!
