Did Kelli Giddish Play A Victim On Svu

Did Kelli Giddish Play A Victim On Svu

Okay, Hear Me Out: Was Amanda Rollins Low-Key Always a Victim?

Let's talk Law & Order: SVU. Specifically, Amanda Rollins. I know, I know, unpopular opinion incoming!

But did anyone else think she kinda... played the victim card sometimes? I mean, she was tough. But also, she had a lot of baggage.

The "I Had a Rough Childhood" Card

We all know about her messed up family, right? Abusive dad, gambler mom, troubled sister. It was a whole soap opera unto itself!

And yeah, that stuff is awful. Seriously, no one deserves that. But did it become her go-to explanation for, well, everything?

Anytime she messed up, was it because of her past? It felt that way sometimes. Like a shield protecting her from real accountability.

Her "Bad Decisions" Era

Let's not forget some of the, shall we say, questionable choices she made. Gambling, hooking up with problematic dudes...

I get it, people make mistakes. We all do. But it always felt like she was let off the hook easier because "poor Rollins."

Were her bad decisions always because of trauma? Or was there also some personal responsibility lacking? It's a valid question.

The "Needing to Be Rescued" Trope

How many times did Rollins need rescuing? From gambling debts, stalkers, her own demons... It was a lot.

Again, I'm not saying she shouldn't have been helped. But it became a pattern. A damsel in distress, almost.

And it felt a little reductive for a character who was supposed to be a strong, independent detective.

But... She Was Also Great

Okay, before you come at me with pitchforks, hear me out. Kelli Giddish was amazing!

She brought a vulnerability and depth to the role that was compelling. Rollins felt real, flaws and all.

And her friendship with Benson was one of the best things about the later seasons. Their bond was genuine and heartwarming.

So, What's the Verdict?

Maybe "victim" is too strong of a word. But I definitely think Rollins leaned into a certain narrative.

A narrative of being damaged and needing protection. It wasn't always a bad thing, but it was definitely there.

And maybe that's why people connected with her. We all have our struggles, our baggage. Rollins just wore hers on her sleeve.

Final Thoughts (And a Plea for Mercy)

Look, I'm not trying to hate on Amanda Rollins. I actually liked her! A lot!

I just think her "victim" tendencies were a part of her character. And maybe not always in a positive way.

So, what do you think? Am I crazy? Or did Rollins occasionally milk the victim card? Let me know in the comments!

And please, be nice. This is just my opinion. I promise I'm not a monster!
