Desperate Housewives Season 1 Episode 1 Full Episode

Pilot Power: Still Kicking After All These Years?
Okay, let's talk about the Desperate Housewives pilot. You know, the one that started it all? It's legendary, right? Everyone says so.
But...does it really hold up? This might be an unpopular opinion, but hear me out. It's good, sure, but perfect? I'm not entirely convinced.
The Mystery of Mary Alice: Hooked From the Get-Go?
Mary Alice Young's suicide is definitely a great hook. The narration from beyond the grave? Genius! It set the stage for all the juicy secrets to come.
Must Read
But sometimes, I think it's too much, too soon. Maybe a little less narration would have built suspense more effectively? Just a thought.
The Housewives Themselves: Early Impressions
Each housewife is introduced with a bang. We've got Bree, the perfect (but secretly crumbling) homemaker. Then there's Lynette, drowning in motherhood. Classic!
And who could forget Susan, the klutzy romantic? Plus, Gabrielle, the materialistic trophy wife. They're all so... stereotypical. But in a good way! Kinda.

Did they maybe lean too hard into the stereotypes at first? Did they become nuanced later? Absolutely. But Season 1 Episode 1, is just the basic foundation.
The "Perfect" Wisteria Lane: Too Good to Be True?
Wisteria Lane is the epitome of suburban perfection. Manicured lawns, picture-perfect houses... it's almost unsettling. Clearly, something's gotta be rotten underneath.
But maybe the show sold the "perfect suburbia" a bit too hard? It became a little ridiculous to accept the things happening in broad daylight. I mean, nobody saw anything?

Rex Van De Kamp: The Least Sexy Man Alive?
Okay, can we talk about Rex Van De Kamp? He's supposedly cheating because Bree is too perfect? Honestly, I never bought it.
I mean, I get the idea of wanting something different. But Rex just seemed… whiny and boring. Did anyone else think he was a bit of a wet blanket?
John Rowland: The Hottest Gardener Ever?
Let's move on to more pleasant topics! Like John Rowland, Gabrielle's gardener. Teenage heartthrob alert! It's difficult to criticize that plotline. Though, it is inherently problematic.

Their affair is obviously wrong, but… well, he's very distracting. Objectively, I mean!
Overall Impression: Still Worth Watching?
Despite my nitpicking, the pilot is undeniably captivating. The writing is sharp, the acting is great, and the mystery is intriguing.
The music is good, too! Especially the opening theme song. It's iconic!

And the setup of all of the mysteries is fantastic. Who wrote Mary Alice's note? What are all the housewives hiding? It all screams "binge-watch me!"
So, is the Desperate Housewives pilot flawless? No. Is it still incredibly entertaining and a great introduction to a fantastic show? Absolutely!
It's a bit rough around the edges. A bit obvious. But that's part of its charm, right? I could watch it all again. Maybe I will.
So go on, give it a re-watch. See if you agree with my unpopular opinions. And tell me I'm wrong!
