Demons Run When A Good Man Goes To War

Okay, let's talk Doctor Who. Specifically, "Demons Run When A Good Man Goes To War." It's an episode everyone seems to love.
But, whisper it, I think it's a tad overrated. Don't throw your sonic screwdrivers at me just yet!
The Hype is Real... Right?
Everyone raves about the epic scale. River Song's big reveal! Madame Vastra and Jenny! Rory being the ultimate badass!
Must Read
It's got all the ingredients for a classic, doesn’t it? But maybe, just maybe, the hype has built it up too much.
The Army of Misfit Toys
Let's be honest, the "army" felt a bit... cobbled together. A Sontaran, a Silurian detective, a couple of pirate aliens... It's like the Doctor raided a fancy dress shop.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Madame Vastra and Jenny. They’re fantastic characters! But did they actually do all that much in this episode?

They looked cool, certainly. However, their impact on the actual plot felt minimal. Just saying.
River Song: Mystery Box Fatigue
River Song is an amazing character. But at this point in the series, her story was getting a bit... convoluted.
"Oh, I'm someone important but you can't know who yet!" It's exciting at first, but after a while, it feels like a magician repeatedly pulling rabbits out of a hat. A slightly damp, overused rabbit.
Her reveal as Melody Pond was a big moment, granted. But it also felt a little… predictable, perhaps?

Rory: Officially a Legend
Okay, I can't fault Rory's performance. He was absolutely stellar. Standing up to the Cybermen like that? Top marks!
He truly proved his worth and went from 'the guy who waits' to a complete legend.
His dedication to Amy is unwavering and heroic. So, yeah, Rory does get a pass.

The Doctor's... Speech?
That speech. You know the one. "Demons run when a good man goes to war." It's supposed to be spine-chilling.
But did it really land that well? It feels a little… forced, I think. Like it’s trying too hard to be epic and profound.
Maybe I'm just immune to dramatic monologues. Or maybe I just prefer when the Doctor shows how good he is, instead of telling us.
Unpopular Opinion Time
Ultimately, "Demons Run" is a visually impressive episode. It has great moments, especially from Rory.

However, it is a little disjointed. It felt like it was trying to juggle too many plot threads at once.
Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I'm just being a grumpy Whovian. But I genuinely think this episode is good, not great.
It’s a solid 7/10. A good episode, just not the masterpiece everyone claims it to be.
So, there. I said it. Now brace yourselves for the comments section! 😈
