Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc Episode 1

Okay, let's talk about something slightly controversial. Maybe? It's Demon Slayer. Everyone loves Demon Slayer. But... here's my mildly spicy take.
The Mugen Train Arc Begins... Sort Of
Episode 1 of the Mugen Train Arc. Is it just me, or is it…kinda skippable? I know, I know, blasphemy! But hear me out.
Rengoku Before the Train
We mostly see Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, right? He's got a mission before the train. It involves tracking down a demon.
Must Read
This demon is stealing from cemeteries. Classy! Rengoku shows up, being all fiery and enthusiastic, as usual. He slices and dices with impressive flair.
The episode sets the stage for who Rengoku is. We get it. He's loud. He's powerful. He loves his sweet potatoes.
My (Slightly) Unpopular Opinion
But…did we NEED an entire episode dedicated to this random side quest? Couldn’t they have just summarized it? Maybe a quick flashback?

The movie (which this arc adapts) jumps right into the train action. And it's amazing! That initial momentum grabs you immediately.
This episode feels like a bit of a detour. Like when your GPS takes you through a weird neighborhood. You're like, "Is this really the fastest way?"
Is it Bad? Absolutely Not!
Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad episode. The animation is gorgeous. Rengoku is always fun to watch.

Plus, the music is epic. Seriously, the Demon Slayer soundtrack is a gift from the anime gods.
It simply feels a little… unnecessary. Especially for those of us who had already seen the movie a dozen times.
Filler? Or Valuable Insight?
Some argue that it gives crucial insight into Rengoku's character. Showing his dedication and strength beforehand is important.

And maybe they're right. Maybe it adds a layer of emotional depth. I just personally found myself itching to get to the main event.
The train! The demons! Enmu's creepy lullaby! That's what I was waiting for.
The Verdict
Ultimately, Episode 1 of the Mugen Train Arc is fine. Perfectly acceptable. Watchable, even enjoyable.

But if you're short on time, or just dying to see the train action, you could probably skip it. Go straight to Episode 2.
I'm ready for the hate comments now. But hey, at least I'm being honest! Who's with me on this slightly controversial Demon Slayer opinion?
Maybe I'm alone in this. And that's okay! More Demon Slayer for everyone, even the "skippable" bits. Let's just all agree that sweet potatoes are delicious.
