Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie Mugen Train 2020

Okay, let's talk about Mugen Train. We all saw it, right? Everyone cried. Tissues were flying everywhere. But, and this is a big BUT, did it really live up to the hype?
Don't get me wrong. The animation was gorgeous. Ufotable, you talented devils, you! The fight scenes were epic. I definitely got my money's worth in visual spectacle.
The Flame Hashira's Fiery Farewell
Let's be honest: Kyojuro Rengoku stole the show. He was basically the sun incarnate. Full of passion, ridiculously loud, and totally inspiring.
Must Read
His death? Gut-wrenching. I mean, they knew what they were doing, tugging at those heartstrings. "Set your heart ablaze!" Yeah, my heart was ablaze with sadness.
But here's my possibly unpopular opinion. Did Rengoku's death feel a little... rushed? Like, bam, inspirational speech, bam, dead. Maybe I just needed more time to process his awesomeness.
Enmu's Dreamy Debacle
Then there was Enmu, the Lower Rank One demon. Nightmares and trains? A somewhat creative combination. His power was definitely creepy.

However, did anyone else find him a bit underwhelming? I mean, he was defeated relatively quickly. He felt more like a warm-up act than the main event.
Sorry, Enmu. You tried your best to give everyone nightmares, but you just couldn't compare with the big boss Akaza. You were kind of a snooze fest. Literally.
The whole dream sequence felt a bit long. I understand the need to show character backstories. Still, I was impatiently waiting for the real demon-slaying action to begin.

And Tanjiro stabbing himself awake? I cringed. Dude's got some serious dedication. But also maybe a slight pain tolerance problem?
Akaza Arrives
Now, Akaza! That's a villain. He showed up, flexing his muscles, being all intimidating. Finally, a worthy opponent. This is what I had been waiting for!
His fight with Rengoku was visually stunning. Every punch, every kick, pure animated artistry. The contrast of fire and destruction was amazing.

But even Akaza couldn’t make me forget about the pacing issues. I felt like the movie could have benefited from more exploration of Rengoku’s character. More time to develop him!
Ultimately, Mugen Train is a visually impressive spectacle. It's full of emotional moments. Yet, I can’t help but feel a little bit… empty. It almost felt as if the movie was made just to make us sad.
Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I'm just a heartless monster. I don't know. But I think the movie is good. Not great. Demon Slayer has much more to offer.

The soundtrack, though? Absolutely flawless. I’m still listening to it on repeat. Especially "Homura". Guaranteed tears every single time. Even when I’m doing dishes.
So, there you have it. My slightly controversial thoughts on Mugen Train. Feel free to disagree. Maybe you think it’s a masterpiece. That’s fine. Just please don’t send me hate mail.
Let’s just agree that Demon Slayer is awesome. Let's also look forward to more adventures with Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. They have so much potential!
