Darling In The Franxx Season 1 Episode 23

Okay, let's talk Darling in the Franxx episode 23. Buckle up, because I'm about to say something that might make some people throw their plushie Zero Two dolls at me.
A Controversial Episode? You Betcha!
Did anyone else find episode 23 a little… well, bonkers? I mean, giant space wedding? VIRM showing up in full force? It felt like someone spiked the Plantation's punch.
We'd spent so much time with Hiro and Zero Two, then BAM! Space opera time! It was like the writers raided a sci-fi convention. And not in a bad way, necessarily. But definitely… jarring.

The Wedding That Launched a Thousand Memes
Let's be real, the space wedding was... something. So many questions! Like, did they register for gifts at Space Bed Bath & Beyond? And did Dr. Franxx officiate? I bet he had some interesting vows prepared.
I get it, it was supposed to be symbolic. Unity, hope, fighting the good fight against cosmic evil. But I was mostly distracted by how everyone managed to coordinate their outfits in space. Serious fashion goals.

Did anyone else think the whole wedding felt rushed? After everything they'd been through, did we really get enough emotional payoff before intergalactic doom arrived? I needed more tears! More longing stares! More dramatic monologues!
VIRM: The Party Crashers From Beyond
Speaking of intergalactic doom, let's give it up for VIRM. They really know how to make an entrance, don't they? Show up uninvited to a wedding? Rude!

These guys were the ultimate buzzkills. Talk about terrible wedding guests! All they wanted to do was ruin the fun and impose their collective will. No thank you, VIRM.
Maybe I'm just a simple soul, but I was more invested in the interpersonal drama. The relationships, the growth, the angst! I can appreciate a good space battle, but I miss the good old days when Hiro was just trying to figure out how to pilot Strelizia without barfing.

Unpopular Opinion Time (Brace Yourselves!)
Here it comes. My probably very unpopular opinion. Ready? I didn't hate episode 23. Okay, deep breaths. I know, I know. Hear me out!
Sure, it was all over the place. It was a rollercoaster of plot twists and space lasers. But it was also... kind of entertaining? It was so over-the-top that it looped back around to being enjoyable. Like a deliciously cheesy B-movie.

I mean, who didn't let out a little "wow" when they saw Strelizia True Apus? That thing was massive. And powerful. And a little bit ridiculous. But in the best way possible.
Maybe it wasn't the most coherent episode. But it was definitely memorable. And sometimes, that's enough. Plus, it set the stage for the epic finale, so we can't be too mad at it, right?
So yeah, episode 23 of Darling in the Franxx: A hot mess? Possibly. A guilty pleasure? Absolutely! Don't @ me.
