Ever feel like your life is just... waiting? That’s pretty much the vibe we get in the first episode of Darling in the Franxx. We're thrown into a futuristic world where kids live in this weird, artificial environment called Plantation 13.

Think of it like a giant, super-protected greenhouse, except instead of plants, it’s full of teenagers trained for one thing: to pilot giant robots called Franxx.

The Misfit

Our main guy, Hiro, is kind of a downer at the start. He was a prodigy, a star pilot candidate, but now he's... nothing. He can’t sync with his partner anymore, and feels like he’s lost his purpose.

He's basically wandering around, feeling sorry for himself, when BAM! Enter Zero Two.

Enter Zero Two

Zero Two is... well, she's something else. Pink hair, red horns, a mischievous grin, and a reputation for being a total monster. Everyone is afraid of her, and for good reason! She's known as the Partner Killer, because whoever pilots with her, dies after a few times.

She’s like a wild animal, unpredictable and fascinating. And she immediately takes an interest in Hiro.

The Serendipitous Encounter

The way they meet is pretty dramatic. Huge Klaxosaur (monster) attack, everyone’s scrambling, and Hiro just happens to be in the right (or wrong?) place at the right time. His former partner Ichigo gets hurt.

Zero Two's partner is also unable to pilot. Just when everything seems lost, Zero Two asks Hiro to be her "darling".

What follows is a chaotic, almost comical sequence of events that has Hiro piloting the Franxx, Strelizia, with her.

Riding Strelizia

Piloting the Franxx is… intimate. It’s not just about pushing buttons; it’s about a deep connection between the two pilots. And the way the anime portrays it? Let’s just say it's… suggestive.

Zero Two is on top, controlling the Franxx, while Hiro is in the back. The whole thing is a bit ridiculous, but also strangely compelling.

First Ride Frenzy

The battle is intense, and Hiro is struggling to keep up. Zero Two is a powerhouse, but he's just trying not to die. He enjoys riding with Zero Two so much!

But together, they manage to defeat the Klaxosaur. They completely obliterate it!

The Aftermath

The episode ends with Hiro exhausted but alive. He actually managed to pilot with Zero Two! And even more surprising, he seems to have survived!

He asks Zero Two why she calls him "darling". Her response? A simple, playful, “Because you’re my Darling.”
