Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 Episode 5 Cast

"Thank You For Your Service" - More Than Just a Catchphrase
Okay, let's talk Curb Your Enthusiasm. Specifically, season 9, episode 5: "Thank You For Your Service." Did anyone else think it was a bit... much?
I know, I know. Heresy, right? But hear me out. This episode relied so heavily on the "thank you for your service" gag, it almost felt like a one-note song played on repeat.
The Guest Stars - Love 'Em or Leave 'Em?
The episode featured some interesting guest stars. We had Nasim Pedrad as the hilariously blunt Numa. She always spoke her mind.
Must Read
And then there was Elizabeth Banks. She played herself as the new owner of the Dodgers! Her scenes with Larry were classic Curb awkwardness.
But honestly, were they really necessary? They felt shoehorned in, almost like cameos for the sake of cameos. Did they enhance the plot? Debatable.
Larry's Misadventures - The Usual Suspects
Of course, no Curb episode is complete without Larry getting into trouble. This time, it involved a dry cleaner and a potentially offensive slogan. Naturally!

His interactions with Jeff Garlin, as Jeff Greene, were gold. Their back-and-forth is always a highlight. Can’t imagine Curb without them!
Leon Black, played by the incomparable J.B. Smoove, brought his usual brand of chaotic wisdom. His attempts to "help" only made things worse, as always.
The "Thank You For Your Service" Overkill
Here’s my unpopular opinion: The constant repetition of "thank you for your service" felt forced. It went from funny to predictable, and frankly, a little tiresome.

I get it, Larry's oblivious. That’s his schtick. But even for him, it felt a bit much.
Maybe I'm being too sensitive. But comedy, even cringe comedy, works best with subtlety. This episode felt like it was screaming its joke at us.
Supporting Cast - The Glue That Holds It Together
Despite my gripes, the supporting cast was excellent. Susie Essman as Susie Greene delivered her usual fiery rants. Love her!

And Cheryl Hines as Cheryl David... well, she mostly just looked exasperated, which is her default setting around Larry. We’ve all been there, Cheryl.
Even minor characters, like the dry cleaner, added to the overall awkwardness. Curb wouldn't be Curb without these unsung heroes.
Final Verdict: Still Funny, But...
Look, "Thank You For Your Service" wasn't a bad episode. It just wasn't a top-tier Curb episode, in my humble opinion.

It had funny moments, sure. But the reliance on a single joke, and the slightly jarring guest appearances, held it back. I prefer when the humor unfolds more organically.
What do you think? Am I being too harsh? Or did anyone else feel like this episode leaned a little too hard into the "thank you" thing? Let me know!
"Pretty, pretty, pretty good... but could have been better." - Maybe Larry David (probably)
Ultimately, it's Curb Your Enthusiasm. Even a "meh" episode is still funnier than most things on TV. So, I’ll still watch it.
And I'll still cringe along with Larry's social faux pas. Just maybe with slightly less enthusiasm this time.
