Csi Crime Scene Investigation Season 16 Episode 1

Okay, let's talk CSI. Specifically, the one that's kind of like a reunion tour: Season 16, Episode 1, "Immortality."
Spoiler alert (duh!): It's the one where Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle come back. And, well, things get... explosive.
Las Vegas, Baby! (One Last Time?)
Right off the bat, you know something's up. There's a bomb. At a casino. Classic Vegas, right?
Must Read
But this bomb is...different. It's like a puzzle. A morbid, explosive puzzle.
Enter D.B. Russell and the crew. They're doing their thing. Analyzing evidence. Being all CSI-ish.
The Grissom/Sidle Reunion
Then BOOM! (not literally, this time... mostly). Gil Grissom shows up. Looking all professorial and slightly world-weary.
And Sara Sidle? Rocking the same edgy cool we all remember and love. My unpopular opinion? They look good.

Their chemistry? Still there. Thick as thieves. Or maybe thick as two entomologists solving a bomb-related crime.
They are there to help on what appears to be Catherine Willows' final case.
My Unpopular Opinion: It's...Fine?
Now, here's where I might lose some of you. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. It was...fine. Just fine.
Don't get me wrong. Seeing Grissom and Sara back was awesome. Nostalgia points for days.

But the episode itself felt a little...rushed? Like they were trying to cram too much into one hour.
We were getting a new case, we are welcoming back old faces and at the same time saying good bye to Catherine.
The Case of the Clever Criminal
The case itself was interesting enough. Someone's messing with Vegas's power grid. For... reasons.
And they're leaving clues. Cryptic clues. Clues that only Grissom, with his bug obsession, can decipher.

The killer is smart. Too smart, maybe? It felt a bit over-the-top, even for CSI.
The way they managed to catch the criminal was a bit far-fetched. I mean, Grissom is smart, but to pinpoint the exact location where the next bomb will be, by a butterfly?... come on!
The Ending: A Bittersweet Goodbye
The ending, though? That got me. Seeing Grissom and Sara sail off into the sunset (literally!), was kind of beautiful.
It felt like a proper send-off. A way to say goodbye to characters we'd invested in for so long.

Even if the episode itself wasn't perfect, that final scene made it worthwhile.
So, there you have it. My lukewarm take on CSI Season 16, Episode 1. It's a reunion episode. It's got explosions. It's got Grissom and Sara being adorkable.
Is it the best episode ever? Nah. Is it worth watching for the nostalgia factor alone? Absolutely. Especially the final shot of Grissom and Sara.
It is an end of an era.
