Crunchyroll The Rising Of The Shield Hero

Okay, let's be real for a sec. We all have those anime we secretly (or not so secretly) love. The ones our friends side-eye us for.
Mine? It's gotta be The Rising of the Shield Hero. Yeah, I said it. Judge me. But before you do, hear me out.
Why I'm Team Naofumi (Even When He's a Grump)
First off, Naofumi gets a seriously raw deal. I mean, talk about starting off on the wrong foot. He's summoned to another world. Accused of something he didn't do? Brutal.
Must Read
I kind of respect that he gets jaded. Wouldn't you? Who wouldn't become a cynical jerk if everyone betrayed them? It's understandable!
Sure, he can be a little...abrasive. But deep down, he has a heart of gold. A heavily armored, spiky-shield-protected heart of gold.
Raphtalia: More Than Just a Cute Companion
Let's talk about Raphtalia. She's often the reason to watch the anime.

She starts out as a frail demi-human. But she blossoms into a total badass. Seriously, her character development is amazing!
And honestly, their bond is one of the most genuine things in the whole show. Forget romantic interests, this is all about found family, all the way.
Filo: The Literal Bird Brain We Adore
And then there's Filo. A giant, fluffy bird. Who can transform into a little girl. What's not to love? I want one!

Okay, maybe her incessant squawking gets old. But she's loyal, powerful, and incredibly cute. She needs protecting from herself more than anything.
Plus, her insatiable hunger is endlessly entertaining. Who hasn't felt that urge to devour everything in sight?
The "Problematic" Parts and Why I Ignore Them (Mostly)
Now, I know what you're thinking. The Rising of the Shield Hero has some, shall we say, controversial elements. And yes, some of the early episodes are rough. I won't deny it.
But I choose to focus on the overall themes of resilience. Of overcoming adversity. Of building trust in a world that seems determined to break you.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is it escapist fun with some surprisingly deep moments? Definitely!
Unpopular Opinion: The World-Building is Underrated
I actually enjoy the world-building! Melromarc is weird. I love it. A kingdom ruled by a terrible Queen? It's more realistic than people think.
The other heroes are jerks. They are so busy arguing instead of solving problems! They feel like a satire on traditional hero stories.

The Wave system is confusing? Probably. But I like the idea of an ever-present threat. It keeps the tension high!
So, there you have it. My slightly embarrassing, but wholeheartedly genuine, love for The Rising of the Shield Hero. Don't judge until you've seen it (or maybe judge a little. I can handle it).
And hey, if you secretly agree, don't be afraid to admit it. We can start a Shield Hero appreciation society. First rule: no trash talking Raphtalia.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch the first season. And maybe buy a plushie Filo. Don't tell anyone.
