Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 English Dub

Okay, let's talk Classroom of the Elite Season 2's English dub. It's here. It's out. We're all (mostly) watching.
But does anyone else feel… a little underwhelmed? Don't get me wrong! The voice acting itself is fine. It's good, even! It's just… something feels off.
The Ayanokoji Enigma
Let's start with Ayanokoji himself. The man, the myth, the deadpan legend. His Japanese voice actor nails that subtly menacing vibe, right?
Must Read
But in the English dub? Sometimes, he just sounds... bored. Like he's reading the back of a cereal box. Where's the calculated indifference?
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm too used to the original. But that monotone can feel less mysterious and more just... flat. It's a tough character to nail, for sure!
Horikita's Sharp Tongue (Or Lack Thereof?)
Then there's Horikita. She's supposed to be sharp, cutting, and intelligent. A real ice queen!

The English dub does a decent job with her. But sometimes her barbs feel a little… softened? Less "you're an idiot" and more "you could try harder."
Maybe they were aiming for wider appeal? Maybe it's just my imagination running wild. But I miss the bite!
The Supporting Cast Shuffle
The rest of the supporting cast is… a mixed bag. Some voices fit perfectly. Others… not so much.
It's hard to put my finger on exactly why. Maybe it's the translation. Maybe it's the direction. Who knows?

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference, right? You might love the English dub! And that's totally valid!
Dub vs. Sub: The Eternal Debate
We all know the drill. The eternal anime debate: dubs vs. subs. It's a battle as old as time. As inevitable as a new Naruto sequel.
Look, I appreciate the effort that goes into dubbing. It's a thankless task. You're taking someone else's work and trying to recreate it in a completely different language.

And accessibility is important! Dubs open up anime to a wider audience. That's a good thing!
Unpopular Opinion Time (Brace Yourselves!)
But here's my (potentially) unpopular opinion: Sometimes, the nuances just get lost in translation. The little inflections. The subtle emotional cues.
Maybe it's because I started watching anime with subtitles. Maybe I'm just a purist at heart. I don't know!
But for me, Classroom of the Elite just hits differently with the original Japanese voices. There's a certain… authenticity that I can't quite explain.

So, What's the Verdict?
Am I saying the English dub is terrible? Absolutely not! It's perfectly watchable. It gets the job done.
I'm just saying… it's not quite the same. It's like drinking diet soda. You know it's supposed to be the same thing, but something's missing.
Ultimately, watch whatever you enjoy! But if you haven't checked out the subbed version of Classroom of the Elite Season 2, give it a try. You might be surprised!
Don't @ me.
