And the tension between Jackie Rohr and Decourcy Ward? Chefs kiss! But in this first episode, it felt a bit... muted.
Did anyone else feel this way, or am I the only one yelling at my TV?
New Faces, New Problems (Maybe?)
We've got a whole new neighborhood to explore. Roxbury is the new battleground.
The focus shifts to a housing project run by Grace Campbell. She's trying to do good, but, you know, Boston.
City on a Hill: Season Two Ratings - canceled + renewed TV shows
Something tells me her good intentions are about to get seriously tested.
I'm ready to see Aldis Hodge and his character Decourcy Ward take on the new setting. It is a welcome change of pace, and I can't wait to see Ward in action.
Jackie Being Jackie (Thank Goodness!)
Look, I know Jackie Rohr is a mess. He's probably the most morally bankrupt character on television.
But come on, you gotta love him! Kevin Bacon is just so good at playing the sleazy, charming rogue.
City on a Hill - Episode 1.01 The Night Flynn Sent The Cops On The Ice
He is the devil we know! The show doesn't work without Jackie's antics.
A Slow Burn?
Maybe it's just me, but this episode felt like it was setting the stage. Lotta groundwork being laid.
We're meeting new players and figuring out the new power dynamics. This takes time.
But I'm impatient! I want the explosions and double-crosses NOW!

Anyone with me?
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Okay, here's where I might get some hate. I think... I think the writing felt a little clunky in this episode.
Some of the dialogue felt forced. Like they were trying too hard to be clever or gritty.
Don't get me wrong, there were still some great lines. But overall, the episode felt slightly labored.

Maybe my expectations are too high. City on a Hill set the bar pretty high with season 1.
Where Do We Go From Here?
Despite my reservations, I'm still on board. This show has too much potential to give up on after one slightly-off episode.
I'm curious to see how the Roxbury storyline unfolds. And I'm always up for more Jackie Rohr shenanigans.
Let's hope the rest of season 2 brings back that original spark. The show can get there. I am pretty sure about it.
What did you guys think of the episode? Am I being too harsh? Let me know! I am ready for some healthy disagreement.
