Cast Of You Can T Do That On Television

Remember afternoons glued to the TV, waiting for the inevitable green slime? That was You Can't Do That on Television, and its cast was legendary! They were the masters of controlled chaos, the kings and queens of kid-friendly anarchy.
The Head Honchos
Les Lye: The Man of a Thousand Faces
Les Lye wasn't just an actor; he was a chameleon. He played everything from the grumpy Mr. Ernst (of Barth's Burgers fame) to the perpetually perplexed newsman, Lance Boyle.
He even donned a bonnet to become the sweet-but-slightly-off Mrs. Prenderghast! Seriously, could anyone else pull off a bad-tempered burger joint owner and a kindly old lady in the same half-hour?
Must Read
He was a legend!
Christine McGlade: The Girl Who Knew Too Much
Christine McGlade was the show's anchor, the one who tried to keep things (relatively) sane. Of course, "sane" on You Can't Do That on Television was a very loose term. She had this way of calmly delivering absurd lines, like, "I heard that!", right before someone got slimed.
She was the queen of the knowing smirk, as if she knew all along we'd get a pie in the face. We totally wanted to be as cool as her.

The Slimed Generation
Alasdair Gillis: The Everykid
Alasdair Gillis was basically all of us awkward pre-teens rolled into one. He was always a prime target for slime, and let's be honest, we kinda loved it! He reacted with the perfect blend of disgust and resignation.
He was our hero!
Lisa Yamanaka: The Smart Aleck
Lisa Yamanaka was quick-witted and wasn't afraid to deliver a zinger. If someone was about to get slimed, you could bet Lisa had something clever (and slightly mean) to say about it. She was the voice of our inner sass.

She even delivered the infamous "I don't know!" line a few times.
Vanessa Whitburn: The Sweetheart
Vanessa Whitburn had an infectious smile and an undeniable charm. Even when covered in slime, she somehow managed to look adorable! She was the sunshine in a show that was mostly green goo.
You just wanted to give her a hug!

Abby Hagyard: The Cute One
Abby Hagyard was very young and was very cute. Even though she was always one of the youngest cast member, that did not stop her from getting covered in slime.
The Recurring Characters
Rodney Helal: The Ultimate Victim
Rodney Helal always played the most unfortunate soul, always falling for the silly tricks and pranks on the show.
Kevin Brereton: The Older Kid
Kevin Brereton played the role of the older kid. He was always giving other kids bad advice.

Why They Mattered
These weren't just actors reading lines. They were a team. They had incredible chemistry and a willingness to embrace the absurd.
They made us laugh, they made us cringe, and they made us want to dump buckets of green slime on our friends (don't actually do that!).
They proved that kids' TV could be smart, silly, and totally unforgettable. They are the reason we all still yell, "I heard that!" whenever someone says something even remotely slime-worthy.
So, thank you, You Can't Do That on Television cast, for the memories (and the vicarious slime baths!). You'll always be legends in our book. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I hear someone saying "water..."
