Cast Of The Inn Of The Sixth Happiness

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness: Let's Talk About That Cast
Okay, confession time. I have some… opinions about the cast of The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. Unpopular opinions, maybe. But hey, we're all friends here, right?
Let's dive right in! I'm ready for the internet to disagree with me.
Ingrid Bergman: A Tad Too… Swedish?
Don’t get me wrong, Ingrid Bergman is a legend. A total icon. But sometimes, watching her as Gladys Aylward, I just thought: "Girl, you're really Swedish."
Must Read
I know, I know, acting! But her accent occasionally felt… distracting. It's a tough role, playing someone so different from yourself. She was very elegant, though!
Maybe someone less known back then would've blended in more? Just a thought. Don't @ me!
Curt Jürgens: The Smooth Operator
Curt Jürgens played Captain Lin Nan. He brought a certain… je ne sais quoi to the role.

He was charming! He was suave! He looked great in that uniform. Honestly, half the reason I watched was for him.
Okay, maybe more than half. I admit it. He was quite engaging on screen!
Robert Donat: A Heartbreaker (Literally!)
Robert Donat as the Mandarin? Ugh, my heart.

Tragically, Donat was ill during filming. He passed away shortly after, and you could kinda tell. Such sadness!
He brought a quiet dignity to the part. And a poignancy knowing his real-life struggles. He still was great though!
The Children: Bless Their Hearts
Okay, the kids in this movie? Adorable overload.
Seriously, try not to smile when you see those little faces. Impossible! Child actors are always risky business, but they nailed it.

Those children added so much warmth and heart to the film. They are awesome.
A Few Other Thoughts
The supporting cast was solid. Everyone did their job, no complaints there.
But the leads? That’s where the magic (and my mild critiques) lie. A complicated cast for a complicated story.

I think some other actors could have been chosen, but I think the film's heart is in the right place.
So, What's the Verdict?
Look, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness is a classic for a reason. It is a good story. Powerful and inspirational.
But that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun dissecting the cast! It's all in good fun.
What are your thoughts? Agree? Disagree? Let me know! Just be nice, please. This is a safe space for slightly controversial movie opinions. 😉
