Bungou Stray Dogs Season 2 Episode 1 English Dub

Okay, let's talk Bungou Stray Dogs. Specifically, season two, episode one. And even more specifically... the English dub.
I know, I know. Dubs versus subs. It's a war that's raged since, like, forever. I'm not here to start a fight, but...
An Unpopular Opinion, Perhaps?
Don't get me wrong, the original Japanese is fantastic. It’s nuanced and powerful. But sometimes, I just wanna chill.
Must Read
And sometimes, chilling means not having to read super fast during intense action scenes. Anyone else feel that way?
So, here's my potentially controversial take: the English dub of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 2 Episode 1 is... pretty darn good!
Let’s Talk Port Mafia
This episode hits hard. We are thrown right into the past of Dazai Osamu.
And, of course, the Port Mafia. The darkness! The intrigue!
In the English dub, the voice acting for young Dazai is surprisingly compelling. They somehow manage to capture his detached, slightly unsettling vibe.

Seriously, the voice actor deserves a medal. They nailed that "I'm bored with everything, including my own existence" tone.
Odasaku: A Dubbed Delight?
Then there's Odasaku, Dazai’s friend. A character that is very important to Dazai’s development.
Odasaku is portrayed brilliantly, even in English! There is a kindness and depth that shines through.
I find his voice comforting. Very distinct from Dazai's.
It made his moments even more impactful, you know? The feels!

English Dub: A Different Flavor
Look, the dub isn't perfect. Some of the lines are a little clunky. And sometimes, the lip-syncing is a bit off.
But overall, the English dub adds a different flavor. It makes the complex plot a bit more accessible.
It allows me to appreciate the animation and the details without constantly focusing on the subtitles. And isn’t that nice?
Plus, I can multitask! I can fold laundry AND watch Bungou Stray Dogs! A truly multi-dimensional experience.
I can even eat snacks and not miss crucial plot points because I'm too busy reading! It's a win-win situation.

The Action Scenes
Speaking of action, the fight choreography in this episode is amazing. Especially during that Port Mafia conflict.
The dub actually enhances some of these scenes. The delivery of certain lines just adds to the intensity.
You can really hear the anger and determination in their voices. Makes it exciting!
Final Thoughts (Before I Get Attacked)
So, there you have it. My somewhat heretical opinion. The English dub of Bungou Stray Dogs Season 2 Episode 1 is enjoyable.
It might not be everyone's cup of tea. And that's okay!

But if you're looking for a way to experience this fantastic anime without having to glue your eyes to the subtitles, give it a shot!
You might be surprised. Or you might hate it. Either way, you've experienced Bungou Stray Dogs in a new way!
And isn't that what it's all about? Trying new things? (And maybe, just maybe, converting to the dub side).
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch it in English. While folding laundry. Don't judge me!
