Okay, Netflix's Belle, or as the cool kids (and Google Translate) call it, Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime. We need to talk. I watched it. You probably watched it. Maybe you even cried. I almost cried.

But here's the thing, and don't hate me: Is it just me, or is it a tad bit...overhyped? I said it. Sue me.

The Visuals: A Feast for the Eyes

Let's start with what everyone agrees on. The visuals are STUNNING. Like, seriously. The world of U is a pure acid trip in the best way possible.

Glitter! Sparkles! Whale-shaped speakers! It's like someone took the internet and injected it directly into my eyeballs. I’m not complaining about the eyeballs, though.

Suzu's transformation into Belle is also pretty amazing. Major glow-up alert! We're talking Cinderella levels of makeover magic.

Okay, okay. We all loved the pretty colors, but did anyone else get a little lost in the sauce? I feel like I was looking at a painting but missing the point behind it.

There are so many random characters. They're all flitting around in U. Were they vital to the plot? Debatable! It was eye candy for days, but the sugar high wore off pretty quick.

I felt like I needed a flowchart to keep track of all the avatars and their personal connections. Maybe that's just me and my goldfish brain.

So, the main story is about Suzu, a shy girl who finds her voice in the virtual world of U. She belts out songs as Belle and catches the eye of the mysterious Dragon, aka the Beast.

Sounds familiar, right? It's basically Beauty and the Beast, but with way more avatars and slightly less talking furniture.

But here’s where my unpopular opinion comes in. Did anyone else find the real-world drama a little...heavy-handed?

I mean, the whole subplot about the abused kids felt kinda…tacked on? Like they threw in real-world darkness to give the pretty visuals some gravitas. I appreciated it, it's important...just felt like they could have delivered it better.

The Music: Banger or Bland?

Okay, the music is undeniably catchy. Belle's songs are absolute earworms. I was humming them for days, much to the annoyance of my roommates.

The Japanese version, with the singer Kaho Nakamura's voice, is angelic. I can almost forgive the story flaws just for the soundtrack. Almost.

But…and this is a big but…does it really serve the story? It feels like we were so focused on Belle singing that we forgot about the rest of the narrative.

Final Verdict: Pretty But Problematic?

Look, I'm not saying Belle is a bad movie. It's visually stunning, the music is great, and it tackles some important themes.

But I think it tries to do too much, and ends up feeling a little disjointed. It's like a beautiful dress with a few ripped seams. Still gorgeous, but you can see the flaws if you look close enough.
