Attack On Titan To You In 2000 Years

Okay, let's talk Attack on Titan. Specifically, "To You, 2000 Years From Now." That first episode, right? Iconic. But also... a little overrated?
Don't get me wrong! Titans eating people is peak anime drama. The music slaps. Little Eren Yeager is full of rage. We get it.
The Hype Train: Worth Riding?
Everyone loses their minds over that episode. Critics praise it. Fans declare it a masterpiece. Is it truly that good?
Must Read
Maybe it’s just me. But I think the nostalgia goggles are on a bit too tight. Let's break it down.
The Setup: We've Seen It Before
Orphan with a tragic past? Check. Monstrous creatures threatening humanity? Check. Last bastion of civilization on the brink of collapse? Check! We’ve seen these tropes before.
It’s not bad, but it’s not groundbreaking. Plenty of stories use similar setups. Attack on Titan just executes it with extra style (and more blood).

Think about other shows, similar plots, but no one makes a fuss like this.
Eren's Anger: A Tad Annoying?
Eren's initial rage is... well, it's a lot. He screams. He vows revenge. He's basically a walking, talking ball of fury.
We get it. Your mom died. Tragic stuff. But maybe dial it back a notch, buddy?
I feel his pain, but sometimes it's too much to handle.

The Titans: Scary, But...
Okay, the Titans are undeniably creepy. Naked giants with vacant stares? Nightmare fuel for days. But are they truly terrifying?
After a while, you get used to them. They become almost... comical. Especially the derpy ones.
I mean, seriously, some of those Titans look like they're auditioning for a bad zombie movie. Not exactly the pinnacle of horror.
The Twist is Coming... Eventually
The best part of Attack on Titan? The crazy twists and turns. The revelations about the world and its history. The moral ambiguity. That's all amazing!

But that stuff doesn't really kick in until later. "To You, 2000 Years From Now" is just the appetizer.
The main course is yet to come.
So, What's the Verdict?
Look, I'm not saying "To You, 2000 Years From Now" is a bad episode. It’s a solid start to a fantastic series. It's good for what it is.
But is it the greatest first episode of all time? I'm not so sure. The story gets better later.

Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I'm just a contrarian. Either way, that's my unpopular opinion!
What do you think? Am I completely wrong? Let me know!
Maybe, just maybe, Eren would agree with me...
"Tatake! (fight) ... my opinion"
