Attack On Titan Part 2 Wings Of Freedom

Okay, let's talk Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom. Remember that game? The one where you zipped around like a caffeinated spider-monkey?
It came out in 2016, and people seemed to love it. But I have a confession. An unpopular opinion, perhaps.
It's... Fine?
Hear me out! It's not bad. It's just… fine. Like, perfectly average flavored ice cream. Acceptable, but not life-changing.
Must Read
The Gameplay Loop
You slash titans. You upgrade gear. Repeat. Forever. Does that sound thrilling after a while?
The initial rush of 3D Maneuver Gear is undeniably cool. But the novelty wears off, doesn't it? It becomes a little... repetitive.
It's like doing the dishes. Exhilarating at first (said no one ever), then just a chore. Fun chore, maybe? But still, chores.

Story Time (Sort Of)
The game follows the first season of the anime pretty closely. Which is great if you want a refresher! But what if you don't?
You're basically playing a recap. A beautifully animated, titan-slaying recap, sure. But still, a recap.
I mean, who doesn't know what happens to Eren? I'm pretty sure even my grandma knows about Eren Yeager now.
Character Chaos
Controlling your favorite characters is pretty awesome. Mikasa is a whirlwind of death. Levi is… well, Levi.

But sometimes, the characters feel a little…stiff. Like they're puppets on strings, which, technically, they are.
It's like they forgot to give them personalities after giving them 3D maneuver gear and swords! Kind of a bummer.
Titan Troubles
The titans look great! They're suitably creepy and imposing. Especially the abnormal ones. Ugh.

But fighting them can be frustrating. Especially when they grab you. It's like playing QTE roulette.
And sometimes, they just feel like damage sponges. Slash, slash, slash. Still standing? Seriously?!
Don't Get Me Wrong!
I don't hate the game! Really. It's a decent adaptation.
And if you're a die-hard Attack on Titan fan, you'll probably enjoy it. But don't expect a masterpiece.

Just expect a slightly above-average action game. With lots and lots of titan-slaying. And a few awkward cutscenes thrown in for good measure.
So, What's the Verdict?
Wings of Freedom is like that comfortable, slightly worn t-shirt. You don't love it. But you wear it anyway.
It's a good way to kill some time and pretend you're Levi Ackerman. But don't expect too much.
Maybe that's just me, though. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way! What do you think? Am I crazy?
