Ascendance Of A Bookworm Anime Season 3

Okay, let's talk about Ascendance of a Bookworm. Specifically, season 3. It's out there, we saw it, we (probably) loved it. But… did we all love it equally?
I'm just gonna say it. Season 3 is… polarizing. Some call it the best season. Others are… less enthusiastic.
My Unpopular Opinion (Maybe?)
Look, I adore Myne. Her determination is inspiring! Her love for books is so relatable, I feel seen. But season 3 felt…different.
Must Read
Remember all the wholesomeness of season 1? The cute crafts? The building of community? Season 3 had that, sure. But it also cranked up the political intrigue.
Suddenly, Myne was less about making paper and more about… navigating noble factions. It felt like a whole new anime sometimes. Like we switched genres mid-series!
Less Bookworm, More Power Play?
I know, I know. Character development is important. Myne can't stay a small apprentice forever. She has to deal with the realities of her situation.

But did the show need so much noble drama? Did we really need all those scheming smiles and complicated alliances? I miss the simple joy of printing!
Don't get me wrong, the political stuff was well-written. It was engaging, tense. But sometimes I just wanted Myne to find a new rare book, not a new political enemy.
I found myself fast-forwarding through some of the heavier political conversations. I wanted more crafting, more bookish joy. Maybe I'm just a simple soul.

The Good Stuff (Because There Was Plenty!)
Okay, let's be fair. Season 3 wasn't all bad. The animation was beautiful, as always. The voice acting was superb. And Myne's relationship with her family was still heartwarming.
Seeing her try to protect those she loved was definitely a highlight. Ferdinand continued to be his wonderfully stoic self. And the new characters were interesting additions.
Plus, we got to see Myne use her powers in some pretty creative ways. Those magical shenanigans were always fun to watch. Who doesn't love a little bit of magical mayhem?

So, What's the Verdict?
Maybe I’m just too attached to the early seasons. Maybe I'm just resistant to change. Or maybe, just maybe, season 3 was a step in a slightly different direction.
It wasn't bad, just… different. Less about the pure joy of books and more about the complexities of power and responsibility. The stakes were higher than ever.
And hey, maybe that's a good thing! Maybe the show is evolving in a compelling way. Maybe I'll appreciate season 3 more on a rewatch.

But for now, I'll stick to my (potentially) unpopular opinion. I missed the bookworm focus! I yearned for more paper-making and less palace intrigue. Give me back my crafting montage!
But hey, at least we got more Ascendance of a Bookworm. And that, in itself, is something to celebrate. Even if I secretly wish Myne would just open a library already.
So, tell me, am I alone in this? Or are there others out there who also felt a slight shift in focus during season 3? Let's discuss! (And maybe rewatch season 1 for a dose of pure, unadulterated bookish bliss).
