Aria Of A Starless Night Digital Release

Okay, let's talk about something. Something everyone seems to adore. I'm talking about the digital release of Aria of a Starless Night. Prepare for some potentially spicy takes!
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate Sword Art Online as much as the next person. But did Aria of a Starless Night really need a super-deluxe digital release? Seriously?
The animation was gorgeous, sure. I'll give it that. Asuna's character development was pretty neat. Maybe the storyline was not that great in my opinion.
Must Read
But let's be real.
We all knew how it was going to end. Did we really need to re-live the Aincrad arc? This time, with slightly shinier graphics? I'm just asking the important questions here!
Maybe I'm just a grumpy old fan. I remember watching SAO when it first aired. Before all the reboots, sequels, and spin-offs. Maybe I'm jaded. It's possible.
I mean, the fight scenes were pretty epic. Asuna kicking butt is always a win. Kirito was... well, Kirito. He's always Kirito.

The Digital Delight Dilemma
Now, about this digital release. Was it really worth all the hype? Did it offer anything truly new? I'm not so sure.
It's like ordering your favorite pizza. You know it's going to be good, but you've had it a million times. Is it still exciting? Hmmm...?
Maybe it's because I prefer physical media. There's just something satisfying about owning a Blu-ray. But, in the age of streaming, I guess I'm a dinosaur.

The Asuna Appreciation Station
Alright, alright, I'll admit it. Seeing more of Asuna's perspective was interesting. Finally, getting to understand her thought process a bit better! It was pretty neat that they focused on her so much in Aria of a Starless Night.
Her relationship with Mito was also a highlight. But was that enough to justify the entire movie? Maybe for some people. But I'm a hard person to please.
Seriously, Mito needs a spin-off. Just saying! Her character design and overall vibe were interesting. Maybe they should explore that, instead of endless Aincrad retreads.

Just My Two Cents!
Look, I'm not saying Aria of a Starless Night is bad. It's not. It's perfectly fine. But it didn't blow my mind.
I also feel that they should have focused on other storylines instead of just rehashing the first arc. Exploring more of the world would be great.
I just felt it was... unnecessary. Maybe it's nostalgia goggles messing with my brain. Who knows?

So, what's the verdict?
Well, if you're a die-hard SAO fan, you probably loved it. If you're new to the series, it's a decent introduction. If you're somewhere in between? You're probably as conflicted as I am.
Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I'm just being overly critical. Tell me I'm wrong in the comments! I'm ready for the backlash.
Ultimately, it's just an opinion. We all have them. And mine is: Aria of a Starless Night digital release... was fine. That's all. The end! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch the original series. For old time's sake.
