Apple Charged Me For An App I Cancelled

Okay, let's talk about something that happened to me. Something involving Apple. And something involving money. You can probably guess where this is going.
Yep. I got charged for an app I cancelled. I thought I was done with it. Finished. Finito. But nooo...
The Subscription Saga Begins (Again)
We’ve all been there, right? You sign up for a free trial. "Oh, this app looks amazing!" you think. "Two weeks free? What do I have to lose?" Famous last words, my friends.
Must Read
You diligently set a reminder to cancel. You even pat yourself on the back for being so organized. Then, life happens.
Suddenly, you're staring at your bank statement. And there it is. That dreaded app charge. The one you swore you cancelled.
My Unpopular Opinion: It's Too Easy to Forget
Now, I know what you’re thinking. "It’s your fault! You should have cancelled it properly!" Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just forgetful. But here’s my (possibly unpopular) opinion.

Cancelling subscriptions should be easier! It should be like breaking up with someone – a clear, definitive "it’s over" moment. Not some hidden menu deep within the settings of your Apple account.
I mean, come on. I can order a pizza in three taps. But cancelling a subscription requires navigating a digital labyrinth worthy of Indiana Jones.
And don't even get me started on finding the actual cancellation button. Is it hidden behind a misleading label? Is it disguised as a "pause" button? The suspense is killing me!
The Great App Escape
So, I did what any reasonable person would do. I contacted Apple support. I explained my situation. I even used the word "cancelled" multiple times for emphasis.

They were… polite. But unhelpful. They pointed me back to the cancellation instructions. The ones I already followed. Apparently, my cancellation attempt was filed under "good effort, try again."
I persevered. I screenshotted everything. I pleaded my case. I even considered writing a strongly worded letter to Tim Cook (but figured he's busy enough).
Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, I got my refund. Victory! But at what cost?

Lessons Learned (Maybe)
This whole ordeal made me think. Maybe I need a subscription intervention. A digital detox. Or at least a better system for tracking my free trials.
Perhaps I’ll write them down on a sticky note. Perhaps I'll hire a personal subscription assistant. Or perhaps I'll just avoid free trials altogether. Okay, probably not that last one.
But seriously, Apple (and all app developers), please make cancelling subscriptions easier. Think of it as a public service. Think of the stress you'll alleviate. Think of the good karma!
And in the meantime, I'll just keep setting those reminders. And crossing my fingers. And maybe wearing a tinfoil hat to ward off unwanted charges. You know, just in case.

Anyone else feel my pain? Let me know in the comments!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go check my bank statement again.
Wish me luck! I have a feeling this is just the beginning of my subscription saga. To be continued...
