App Store Won't Let Me Download Apps Billing Information 2022

Ugh, the dreaded "App Store Won't Let Me Download Apps" notification. Anyone else feel personally victimized by Apple sometimes?
I swear, it's like they enjoy reminding me that I exist solely to provide them with money. Is it just me, or is this a common problem?
The "Billing Information 2022" Black Hole
Okay, let's talk about the elephant in the room: Billing Information. Specifically, that pesky "Billing Information 2022" error. Why 2022? Why not 2023? Or, hear me out, allow me to download free apps without interrogating my financial history?
Must Read
I get it. Security. Fraud prevention. But does the free calculator app really need my CVV? Seriously? Come on, Apple.
It's always the same dance. You update your billing info. You check your expiration dates (which, let's be honest, you memorized years ago). You even try removing and re-adding your card. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

The Unpopular Opinion: Free Apps Should Be TRULY Free
Here's my unpopular opinion: If an app is free, the process of downloading it should be effortless. Like, tap-and-go effortless. Is that too much to ask?
I'm not saying Apple should just give away the store. I'm just suggesting maybe, maybe, we could skip the financial deep dive for the apps that cost absolutely nothing.
Don't even get me started on the multiple verification texts. My phone thinks I'm attempting to purchase the entire App Store every time I try to download a simple game. "Is this you?" Yes, Apple. It's always me. Desperately trying to avoid boredom during my commute.

The Endless Loop of "Update Your Information"
And the worst part? The vague error messages! "Your purchase could not be completed." Okay, thanks for the detailed explanation, App Store. Very helpful.
You're then directed to a page that basically says, "Update Your Information." As if you haven't already done that approximately 17 times in the last hour.
It's a vicious cycle of updating, verifying, and still being denied access to that new meditation app I desperately need to cope with this very situation.

The "Solutions" That Aren't Really Solutions
The internet is overflowing with "solutions" to this problem. Have you tried turning it off and on again? (Yes, yes I have.) Check your region settings? (Also yes.) Contact Apple Support? (Dear lord, please no.)
Apple support is great, I'm sure. But the thought of navigating their automated system to explain why I can't download a free app makes me want to throw my phone into the nearest body of water.
So, here I sit. Unable to download that brain-training game. My billing information presumably trapped in some sort of digital purgatory. All because the App Store thinks I'm up to no good.

Is It Just Me? Or Is This a Universal Struggle?
So, tell me, am I alone in this? Is everyone else seamlessly downloading apps while I'm stuck battling the Billing Information 2022 beast?
Or are we all just silently suffering, secretly plotting our escape to a simpler, app-ier world? A world where free means free, and billing information is only requested when, you know, actual money is involved.
Let me know your thoughts. Misery loves company, especially when that misery involves the App Store.
