Anthony Bourdain No Reservations Season 1 Episode 2

Okay, let's talk Bourdain. Specifically, No Reservations. And even more specifically, Season 1, Episode 2: France.
Everyone loves Tony in France, right? Baguettes, wine, complaining... it's basically him in human form.
But here's my (potentially) controversial opinion: this episode is... fine. Not great. Just fine.
Must Read
Paris is Always a Good Idea (Except When It's Not?)
He starts in Paris. Of course he does. It's Paris!
We see the obligatory sights: the Eiffel Tower, some cool cafes, maybe someone flipping off a mime (I wish).
But honestly, it feels a bit... expected. Like a postcard.
Escargots and Existential Dread
There's snail eating. He drinks a lot of wine. Shocker!

Bourdain talks about his love for French food, which, fair enough. It's French food.
But even Tony can't make watching someone slurp a snail particularly riveting. Sorry, snails.
The French Countryside: Still Kicking
Then he heads to the countryside. Supposedly for "real" French food.
We get some lovely shots of rolling hills and charming villages.
Much more interesting to see something less touristy.

Cassoulet: A Culinary Power Nap
There's a lot of talk about cassoulet, a bean stew. A hearty, potentially nap-inducing dish.
He eats it with gusto, naturally. Pretending to be impressed.
I'm sure it was delicious, but watching it on TV? Yawnsville.
My Unpopular Opinion: It's All a Bit... Vanilla
Look, I love Anthony Bourdain. I really do.
But this episode feels a bit...safe. Like he's ticking off boxes on a "Things You Must Do in France" list.

Is it because it's early in the series? Was he still finding his groove?
Where's the Grit?
Where are the questionable back alleys? The truly bizarre food? The ranting?
I missed the edge! It felt like a Travel Channel show hosted by someone who occasionally swears.
Maybe I'm being too harsh. After all, it's France. It is inherently classy!
Don't Hate Me, Bourdain Fans!
I'm not saying it's a bad episode. Just not a standout.

Compared to some of his later, wilder adventures, this one's a bit...tame. It's almost too safe.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for the messy, chaotic episodes. Give me questionable street food over fancy snails any day.
Judge for Yourself
Watch it again. Tell me I'm wrong! (Politely, please.)
Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I need more wine.
Or maybe, just maybe, Bourdain in France, in this particular instance, is just... okay. Don't @ me!
