Anne Of Green Gables Movie Part 1

Okay, folks, let's talk Anne of Green Gables. Specifically, part one. The OG. The one everyone swoons over.
But I have a confession. Ready? Take a deep breath.
The Charm… Is It Just Me?
Is it just me, or is the first movie a tad…overrated? I said it! Don't throw your Avonlea calendars at me!
Must Read
We all adore Megan Follows as Anne. That's a given. Her red hair is iconic. Her imagination? Unmatched.
But sometimes, Anne's dramatic pronouncements get a little…much. Okay, a lot. A lot much.
Drama Queen or Just a Kid?
I mean, the whole raspberry cordial incident? Tragic, yes. Hilarious, absolutely. But also, a little overblown? Come on, Anne.
And the puffed sleeves! The sheer anguish over not having puffed sleeves! We get it, fashion is important.

But girl, you're living on a farm in the late 1800s. Priorities!
I’m not saying Anne isn’t relatable. We've all had our moments of dramatic flair.
But sometimes, I just want to shake her gently and say, "Honey, it's gonna be okay. They sell sleeves on Etsy now."
Marilla: A Secret Softie?
Then there's Marilla Cuthbert. Stern, practical, and seemingly devoid of emotion. Or is she?

Everyone loves watching her slowly thaw under Anne's sunshine. It's heartwarming, no doubt.
But let's be honest, Marilla spends half the movie looking perpetually annoyed. Like someone stole her favorite knitting needles.
I get it, Anne's a handful. But maybe a smile or two wouldn't kill you, Marilla!
Gilbert Blythe: The Original Frenemy
And who could forget Gilbert Blythe? The boy who dared to call Anne "Carrots". The nerve!
Their rivalry is legendary. A classic enemies-to-lovers story. Sigh.

But let's face it, Gilbert was kind of a jerk at the beginning. "Carrots"? Really?
He spends the rest of the movie trying to redeem himself. And, okay, he's pretty cute while doing it.
Nostalgia vs. Reality
Maybe my slightly-less-than-glowing review comes down to nostalgia. We all love Anne of Green Gables. It's practically a Canadian institution.
But sometimes, re-watching it as an adult, you see things a little differently. The drama seems a little more…dramatic.

The fashion choices seem a little more…questionable. (Sorry, puffed sleeves.)
But hey, that's okay! We can still love Anne, even if we acknowledge its quirks.
It's a charming story. A classic tale of found family and self-discovery. And yes, Megan Follows is amazing.
So, go ahead, re-watch it. Bask in the Avonlea sunshine. Just maybe, take it all with a grain of salt (or a spoonful of raspberry cordial).
And tell me, am I the only one who thinks Anne needs to chill just a little bit?
