Anime Where The Main Character Is Villain

Bad Guys Win? My Favorite Anime Twist!
Okay, let's be honest. Heroes are overrated. We're always cheering for the good guy, right? But sometimes... the villain is just cooler. And funnier. Don't @ me!
What if the main character WAS the villain? Mind. Blown. And yes, I know what you are thinking, "Anti-hero!". Fine, but for all intents and purposes, they are the baddies here!
Why Root for the "Bad" Guy?
Think about it. Villains have goals. Big, ambitious, often slightly insane goals. Watching them try to achieve those goals is often way more entertaining than watching some goody-two-shoes save the day. Plus, they usually have better outfits.
Must Read
Consider Death Note. Okay, Light Yagami had a noble-ish starting point. Eradicating crime? Sounds good! But then the power went to his head. Suddenly, he's playing God. Deliciously evil.
Light's descent into darkness is what makes the show gripping. We're not supposed to agree with him (entirely, anyway). But we can't deny he's captivating. You're practically begging him to just STOP... while secretly wanting to see what crazy thing he'll do next.

More Nefarious Favorites!
Then there's Overlord. Ainz Ooal Gown? Supreme Being? Total boss. He's basically an overpowered gamer stuck in his favorite MMORPG. And he's slowly, unintentionally, becoming the ruler of the world. Mostly by accident.
Ainz isn't necessarily malicious. He just... doesn't really care about humans. Or anyone who isn't loyal to him. His methods are...questionable. But hey, sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet, right?
Don't forget the morally ambiguous types. We have Code Geass and Lelouch Lamperouge, who takes what many would say is a "ends justify the means" approach to achieving his goals.

It's All About Perspective
Maybe it's not about rooting for evil. Maybe it's about seeing things from a different perspective. Villains often have compelling backstories. They've been wronged. They're misunderstood. Or, you know, they're just power-hungry maniacs. Either way, it's interesting!
These anime shows challenge us. They ask: What if we supported the person who wasn't playing by the rules? What if the "hero" was actually kind of boring?

So next time you're scrolling through anime recommendations, consider giving the villain a shot. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it. You might even find yourself... relating to them. Just a little. Okay, maybe a lot.
Just don't go starting any world domination plots, okay? Keep it to the screen. Unless... nah, just kidding. (Mostly).
"All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy." - The Joker, probably applying to some anime villains too.
My unpopular opinion? Villains make anime better. Fight me in the comments! (Just kidding... unless...?)
