American Idol Disney Night 2022 Song List

Okay, people, let's talk Disney Night 2022 on American Idol. Remember that? It feels like a lifetime ago! But the earworms... oh, they linger.
The Song Choices: Hit or Miss?
Some of the song choices were, let's be honest, a little... predictable. I mean, "Let It Go"? Seriously? It's a classic, sure. But didn't we all scream that song enough back in 2014?
And don't even get me started on how many princesses seemed to be forgotten. Where was the love for Mulan? Pocahontas? I felt like representation took a backseat that night.

My Unpopular Opinion
Here's where I might lose some of you. I actually think some of the non-traditional Disney songs were the highlights. "Remember Me" from Coco? Gets me every time!
Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for a good cry. Or maybe, just maybe, it's because those songs offered something a little different. Something beyond the usual princess-power anthems.

"A whole new world... of predictable song choices!" - My internal monologue during the show.
Speaking of different, did anyone else think some of the arrangements were... questionable? A few contestants seemed to be fighting the song, rather than embracing it.
The Performances: Who Nailed It?
Let's give credit where credit's due. There were some truly magical moments. I remember being genuinely impressed by a few of the vocals.
And the costumes! Some of the outfits were on point. You could tell some of the contestants really embraced the Disney spirit. Katy Perry's outfit was also quite the highlight, as usual.

But...
But let's be real. Some performances felt a little forced. Like they were trying too hard to be Disney-fied. Sometimes, less is more, you know?
It's tough to sing Disney. There's so much expectation and nostalgia attached to these songs. You have to be good, but also embody the character without being cheesy.
The Judging: Fair or Foul?
Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. The holy trinity of Idol judging. Were they on their game that night?

I thought they were generally supportive. But I also think they could have offered a little more constructive criticism. Sometimes, sugarcoating doesn't help anyone improve.
Did anyone else think some of the critiques were a little... vague? "You need to connect more!" Okay, but how? Give the poor contestants something to work with!
Overall Impression
Disney Night on American Idol. It's a spectacle, that's for sure. It's a chance to revisit childhood favorites. It's a chance to see talented singers try their hand at iconic songs.

But sometimes, it can also feel a little predictable. A little formulaic. I wish they'd take more risks! Give us some deep cuts! Surprise us!
Ultimately, though, it's all in good fun. It's entertainment. And who doesn't love a little bit of Disney magic? Even if it's served with a side of overplayed songs.
So, yeah, Disney Night 2022. A mixed bag, for sure. But hey, at least it gave us something to talk about. And maybe, just maybe, inspired a new generation of Disney fans. Or at least gave us an excuse to rewatch The Lion King... again.
