Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good Southern drawl. But sometimes, it felt like everyone was trying too hard to be quirky.

Now, about Jim Williams. He's the antique dealer, accused of murder.

Was he guilty? Innocent? Did he accidentally shoot Danny Hansford? The book keeps you guessing.

But honestly, I wasn’t that invested. Maybe I'm just heartless. Sue me.

And Danny Hansford? He's painted as this troubled young man. But he also seemed...unpleasant.

I'm not condoning murder, of course. But I wasn't exactly weeping for him.

It’s The Lady Chablis! Now that's entertainment.

She's sassy, she's fabulous, and she steals every scene she's in. I'd read a whole book just about her.

Here’s where I might lose some of you. Are you ready for my unpopular opinion?

I think the movie is better than the book! Gasp!

Hear me out. John Cusack is fine as the writer, and Kevin Spacey’s portrayal of Williams is great.

Jude Law? Delicious as Danny Hansford. But it’s The Lady Chablis who really brings the movie to life.

Seeing her on screen, delivering those lines? Pure gold! Forget the murder plot.

And I'll say it. The book goes on and on! Sometimes you just need to get to the point.

Maybe I'm just impatient. Or maybe I prefer a more visual experience. Either way, the movie wins in my book.

Okay, okay, I'll admit Savannah is beautiful. Those squares! That architecture!

And the food? Shrimp and grits are amazing. I’ll give them that.

But the constant humidity? No thanks. I'll admire it from afar.

And all those ghost tours? A little cheesy for my taste.

I get it, Savannah has a certain mystique. But I think it's a little overhyped.

Maybe I just didn't get it. Perhaps I need to go back, armed with more bug spray and a stronger appreciation for Southern gothic.

So, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Overrated? Maybe. Entertaining? Definitely.

Worth reading or watching? Sure, especially if you want to experience a slice of Southern oddity.

But don't expect a gripping thriller. Expect a quirky character study, with a dash of murder and a whole lot of Spanish moss.

And, more importantly, remember: The Lady Chablis is the real MVP.
