Academy Award For Best Actress Winners & Nominees

Let's talk about the Oscars! Specifically, Best Actress. It's a category filled with dazzling gowns and even more dazzling performances.
The "Give Her the Oscar Already!" Club
Some actresses feel like they've been nominated a million times! Like, seriously, give them a gold statue! It's practically a cultural imperative at this point.
The Susan Lucci of the Oscars (But, You Know, Talented)
Think of Amy Adams. Six nominations and... nada. It’s like the universe is conspiring against her. Someone get that woman an Oscar, stat!
Must Read
The "Should've Won, Period" Brigade
Then there are the actresses who were robbed. I said it! Robbed! Okay, maybe "overlooked" is a nicer word.
I’m still scratching my head over Glenn Close never winning for "Fatal Attraction." Or even "The Wife!" It's a cinematic crime against humanity, I tell you.

The "Surprise!" Winners
And who could forget the surprise wins? The moments when everyone's jaw dropped to the floor. The underdog story that makes us all cheer.
Gwyneth Paltrow winning for "Shakespeare in Love" remains a head-scratcher for many. Don't get me wrong, she was fine. But fine enough to beat Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth) or Fernanda Montenegro (Central Station)?
Unpopular Opinions (Brace Yourselves!)
Okay, time for some controversial statements. These are my humble opinions, and I understand if you disagree. Don't @ me!

I think Sandra Bullock's win for "The Blind Side" is... overrated. There, I said it. A perfectly good performance, but Oscar-worthy? Hmmm...
And don't even get me started on some of the nomination snubs. Where was Toni Collette for "Hereditary?!" Seriously, the Academy owes her an apology. She delivered a performance that was equal parts terrifying and heartbreaking.
The "Lifetime Achievement" Oscars (Sort Of)
Sometimes, it feels like the Academy gives out Oscars as a sort of "thanks for being awesome for so long." Which, you know, is fine! Good even! But were these performance really the best of the year?

Hey, I'm not complaining that Julianne Moore finally got hers for "Still Alice." She's a legend. But was that her absolute best work? Maybe not. But, who cares. Right?
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, the Oscars are just one big popularity contest. With really expensive dresses. And really long speeches.
It's fun to debate who deserves to win. Ultimately, we're just celebrating amazing performances by incredibly talented women. And that's something to celebrate, regardless of who takes home the little gold man.

Plus, the fashion is always on point. Seriously, that's half the reason I watch anyway!
So, who are your favorite Best Actress winners and nominees? And what are your most controversial Oscar opinions? Let's hear 'em! But be nice!
