A Thirty Year Old's Health And Physical Education

Okay, let's talk about being 30-something. Specifically, our "health" and "physical education." You know, the stuff we were supposed to learn in school?
Spoiler alert: I think we were lied to. Or at least, heavily misled.
The P.E. Myth
Remember P.E.? Endless laps. Dodging balls aimed directly at your face. Being forced to climb that rope everyone secretly hated.
Must Read
The point was...exercise? Teamwork? Humiliation? I'm still not sure. It definitely wasn't fun. And it certainly didn't prepare me for the real world.
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here's where I might lose some of you. But I think traditional P.E. is mostly garbage. There, I said it.
It instilled in me a deep-seated aversion to running. Thanks, Mr. Henderson! I'd rather fold laundry. Even do taxes!

Now, don't get me wrong. Exercise is good! We all know that. But forcing kids to do stuff they hate? Counterproductive.
The Thirty-Something Reality
Fast forward to being a grown-up. My P.E. skills translate to...nothing. Absolutely nothing. Except maybe a knack for avoiding exercise.
My "physical education" consists of trying to reach the remote without getting up. And strategically parking as close to the grocery store entrance as possible.
Is that healthy? Probably not. But is it efficient? Absolutely!

What We Really Need
Instead of learning how to play dodgeball, we should have learned about stretching. And proper posture. And the importance of sleep.
Imagine a world where P.E. taught us how to meal prep. Or how to manage stress. Or how to build a sustainable exercise routine you actually enjoyed.
Now that's a P.E. class I would have aced!
My Current "Health" Regimen
Full disclosure: I'm not a health guru. I'm just a regular person trying to survive adulthood. Preferably with minimal aches and pains.

My workout routine is...erratic. Some weeks I'm a gym rat. Others, I'm a couch potato. It's a delicate balance.
I've discovered that the key is finding activities you don't actively dread. For me, it's walking my dog. He’s very enthusiastic, very enthusiastic.
Diet "Education"
And let's not even get started on diet. My food pyramid is basically pizza, coffee, and the occasional vegetable. Don't judge me!
I'm trying to be better. I really am. But sometimes, a girl just needs a slice of pepperoni. Or three. Or the whole pie. Okay, I'll stop.

It is worth mentioning the healthiest thing I do is probably just drinking water. My skin glows now; it’s great.
The Bottom Line
Our thirty-something health and physical education isn't about being an athlete. It's about being functional. And relatively pain-free.
It's about finding small ways to move our bodies. And making slightly better choices. Most of the time.
So, let's ditch the P.E. guilt. Let's embrace the reality of being a grown-up. And let's all go take a nap.
