A Tale Of Two Cities Book 2 Chapter 2

A Tale Of Two Cities Book 2 Chapter 2

Mr. Lorry's Morning Ritual (Or Lack Thereof)

Okay, let's dive into A Tale of Two Cities, Book 2, Chapter 2. It’s titled "A Sight." But honestly, I think it should be called "Mr. Lorry's Boring Morning."

We're stuck with Mr. Lorry, that dependable, dry-as-toast guy, waking up. He's at the Royal George Hotel, in Dover. He's ready for another day of banking, I guess?

He stares out the window at the sea. Thrilling stuff, right? I'd rather watch paint dry, no offense to Mr. Lorry.

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

Here's where I might get some side-eye: I think Mr. Lorry is...boring. I said it! He's like the human equivalent of beige wallpaper.

Sure, he's loyal. And trustworthy. And probably smells faintly of mothballs and sensible shoes.

But give me a Sydney Carton or a Madame Defarge any day! Those guys have character!

Lucie's Arrival: A Ray of Sunshine (Kind Of)

Thankfully, Lucie Manette arrives. She's like a little sunbeam trying to break through the fog of Mr. Lorry's personality.

She wants to know about her father. Understandably! After all, he's been locked up for, oh, only eighteen years!

Mr. Lorry, bless his heart, tries to explain things delicately. He’s all about “business” and “professional decorum.” I bet he uses big words to confuse people.

The Big Reveal (Finally!)

Then comes the big reveal: Lucie is going to meet her father! In Paris! Cue dramatic music (or maybe just the sound of Mr. Lorry clearing his throat).

He's alive! This isn't exactly a surprise to anyone who's read ahead. Still, it's kind of a big deal for Lucie.

He's staying with Ernest Defarge, an old servant. And, surprise, surprise, Madame Defarge! We're back to those intriguing characters.

Mr. Lorry insists this is all business, of course. He is a banker, after all. Rescuing long-lost relatives is totally what bankers do.

Yeah, right. He's totally hiding something! I bet he's got a secret decoder ring and a fake mustache hidden in his luggage.

Okay, maybe not. But he’s definitely not telling Lucie everything. He's trying to protect her delicate sensibilities. Men!

So, Lucie, Mr. Lorry, and Miss Pross are off to Paris. Adventure awaits! (Hopefully with less beige wallpaper.)

I am really hoping someone spills coffee on him, or at least he misplaces his umbrella!

This chapter is mostly setup. It is not that interesting. But the stage is set for the real drama to begin. And maybe, just maybe, Mr. Lorry will surprise us. (Probably not.)

Alright, onto the next chapter! Let's hope for more excitement and fewer detailed descriptions of Mr. Lorry's breakfast.

Until then, keep reading! And try to stay awake during the Mr. Lorry parts.
