A Different World Season 3 Episode 12

A Different World Season 3 Episode 12

Okay, let's talk A Different World. Specifically, Season 3, Episode 12, “Forever Hold Your Piece.” Prepare yourselves. I have thoughts. Possibly controversial ones.

The One with the Art Auction...

Remember that episode? The Hillman students are putting on an art auction. To raise money, of course. Always fundraising at Hillman. I swear, they needed a bake sale every other week.

And Dwayne? Dwayne’s trying to impress Whitley. Because, naturally.

Let's Talk About That Art

The art itself is…interesting. I’m no art critic. But some of it looks like something I could whip up after a particularly intense pizza craving.

Kim’s got some pieces in the auction. We're supposed to believe she's artistic. I guess. It's Kim. She's good at everything else.

And there's Ron. He's got a piece that's, let's just say, thought-provoking. Some people love it. Some…not so much.

Dwayne's Grand Gesture (That Falls Flat)

Dwayne thinks he can buy Whitley's affections. He plans on outbidding everyone for her favorite piece. Bless his heart.

It backfires spectacularly. Whitley is not impressed by his spending. She sees right through his shallow intentions. Ouch.

He ends up with a very expensive piece of art. That she doesn't even want. Dwayne, Dwayne, Dwayne. When will you learn?

The Unpopular Opinion: It's Kind of Annoying

Okay, here it is. My unpopular opinion. The whole art auction storyline? Kinda annoying.

I know, I know. It's supposed to be charming. It's supposed to be about self-expression. But it feels a bit...filler.

Like they needed an episode idea. Someone said, "Hey, let's have an art auction!" And everyone just went with it.

Ron and Kim's Side Story

Ron and Kim's subplot about the art is more interesting. They're actually passionate about art. Even if their tastes differ.

They debate the meaning of Ron's controversial piece. It’s actually a pretty good conversation. About art. And life.

They are intellectual and honest with each other. Ron and Kim are an underrated duo, honestly.

Whitley's Wardrobe: Always on Point

Even if the storyline is a bit weak, Whitley's wardrobe is still amazing. Every single episode.

She's rocking some serious shoulder pads in this one. And the jewelry! Don't even get me started.

Whitley Gilbert is a style icon. Period. No debate allowed.

Overall Verdict

“Forever Hold Your Piece” isn't the best episode of A Different World. I said it. Come at me.

It's not terrible. But it's definitely not a standout. I find myself skipping it more often than not.

But hey, even the "meh" episodes of A Different World are still better than most shows on TV today. Right?

But What Do You Think?

Am I crazy? Does anyone else find this episode a little…underwhelming?

Or do you love the art auction? Do you think I’m missing some profound artistic statement?

Let me know! Let's discuss! Maybe you can change my mind. Probably not, but hey, worth a shot.
